Modifications and Insurance
#1
Having waited a year to realise this was the motorbike I'd been wanting to buy since I was 8 and went for a pillion ride on a Kawasaki Z1100.

I've ridden most things since, but the CB in stock form floats my boat, and ticks all the boxes.

I am however tempted by the gorgeous modifications you chaps have done to your own bikes.

Over here in Blighty, we risk having invalid insurance if we modify the bike without consent/notification of the insurance company.

If we fail to declare any modifications, we risk being uninsured, therefore in deep poop.

If we declare the mods, all the mainstream companies shy away and refuse cover, or bump the premium up a shed load.

How does it work elsewhere in the world where you all seem to have drastic modifications to your bikes?

I have tinkered in the paste and never let it bother me, but now in my early forties and being a sensible chap I tend to check before leaping.

I've never thought about it much, although I am not a big modifier, I always assumes the mods I made would not affect coverage, See below for policy info if you want accessories covered. Looks like mine is included up to $3K worth.

Seems to have the same sort of wording as any insurance policy. Worth asking the question though before you kill a queue of people waiting for a bus when your front tyre pops (worst case scenario).

I used to give not a toss, and as long as I had a slip of paper to show the law, all was good.

Now I think we should ALL cover our arses. Shy

My insurance covers up to $5000.00 USD in modifications. I believe they think those with CB1100 are not going to go crazy with power modifications and really how much can you increase the power of a CB without going over the top. I will never bolt on NOx or a turbo. I am too lazy and would just go buy a faster bike anyway! I did not buy the CB1100 for speed.

The funny thing about this is this was one of the questions that my insurance company asked me when I called to get it insured.

My policy shows $3000 coverage for accessories. I don't know if "accessories" are considered the same as "modifications". You would think the terms are interchangeable, however, I could see how they might frown on certain performance boosting mods, NOx or Turbos, for instance. The chances of killing yourself and/or someone else on a nitrous or turbo bike, (or even both), would be exponentially higher than say, a bike that only has cosmetic/ergonomic type accessories. I have no doubt that the insurance companies have included some fine print somewhere in the policy that defines all of this, and what they will or will not cover.

Insurance is very necessary for the bikes because when You have accidents then insurance company will provide you money to recover a loss.

So THAT's what they do! I thought they were producing genetically modified lizards and zombies in white maid outfits.

Lol easy Spaceman.

Kaamil's info says he's from Pakistan. Wonder how things are different there as compared with here with regards to insurance. We take such things for granted. May be the same there and then again having insurance there may be a big deal. Maybe he will comment.

Btw I like the lizard, he is bery entertaining. no so hot on the white maids outfit chick, although I have heard some thing she's hot. I just don't see it.
