The thread title is 2015 CB, but the article is about the 2014 bike. Looking at Honda's web site and talking to the dealers it's looking more and more like the grand old air cooled CB1100 is toast. There will be no 2015 CB. Bummer.

It may end up like the ST1300 and the VFR1200. Still on their site even though they haven't produced a new version in years. It's a shame. In any event, I think the review nailed it. A great bike but a bit overpriced for what you get. I'll confess plainly I probably overpaid. But, so what? When it's what you want and you can't find it elsewhere you "pay the man."

“I never thought I’d say an 1100 would make a great beginner bike, but the CB1100 really would"

I think that was a compliment.

Gentlemen,

Yesterday on the way to dinner my son and I traded bikes for the 25 mile ride. His Ducati 796 felt like a paint shaker compared to my CB1100. And even with his trick carbon fiber slip on's the Duck still didn't have the snarling growl of my Staintune. My CB11 was more comfortable and felt like a better handling bike too. This is such a great bike.

Chip, did you and your son share your thoughts with one another after trading bikes back? I'd be curious to know how he felt about your CB1100 after that experience.

Two quotes from the different threads on this article. I'd be interested to hear (read?) other views. Mine is that it suggests that the author of the statement either knows mountains more than me or has lost the plot. Was it meant to be a compliment? Was he saying it's such a beautifully mannered and balanced bike that even a beginner could ride it? Or was it part of the 'faint praise'? Was he saying it was such a boring and gutless bike that even a beginner could ride it. I can't make up my mind.

I also know it doesn't really matter what he thinks, except ........ people in positions of influence, however minor, shouldn't peddle nonsense that might influence people. The idea that a beginner could easily ride an 1100cc motorcycle, even one as charming and well behaved as the CB1100, is surely nonsensical. Even the power-reduced 650 cc bikes that learners and novice riders can ride in Australia are probably too big for many. It's not just power; there's also the weight of the things to be considered. Then there's the combination of those two factors.

I tend to agree with you Cor. It's not just how well mannered it is at all, but the weight of the bike. EVERYONE will drop their first bike at least once and 99% of new riders have no clue on how to safely/properly pick up a bike once it's been dumped. So the lighter the bike is, the better off they will be all around. Most likely there will be less damage to the bike and possibly less damage to the rider as well with the smaller, lighter bike.

Guth,

Yes we did. Charley had ridden my CB11 before he got the Ducati but it had been a while. He really wanted a Ducati because of the "cool factor". But getting back on the CB11 was eye opening for him. He was clearly surprised at how good it was and remarked that it was every bit as fast as his 796, much smoother and far more comfortable. He also said it handled great and effortlessly. In his own way he told me that if the CB11 was a Ducati, he would prefer it to the 796. BUT, the trump card is (in Charley's words) pulling up to his friends house on that bright red Italian bike, pulling his helmet off, and shaking his hair out in slow motion with the girls looking on! He says the Duck performs better in that mode.

Charley sounded almost a bit disappointed admitting how much he liked the CB11 compared to his Ducati and that's the truth. I've ridden both quite a bit and the CB11 is so superior as a sport/cruiser that it's no contest. If every potential customer rode both bikes, nobody would buy the Ducati unless they just had to have an Italian bike. Cheers.
