I'm a soon-to-be CB1100 owner (although how soon is up for debate). After a year+ of debating between a Triumph Bonneville and the CB1100, I made my decision and finally convinced my wife the DLX was worth the extra money because of the ABS and other features (not to mention I like the red a bit more than the black).
Imagine my horror when I learn the DLX models are all but gone! I've called just about every listing on cycletrader with no luck. So now I am left with a tough decision: buy a 2014 standard model or cross my fingers and hope that someone decides to sell their 2014 DLX in the next year.
I ride mostly interstate to and from work, so the 2013 is out of the question due to the lack of a 6th gear. Is the DLX destined to be a collectors' prized bike that will be impossible to come by? Should I move on and get the standard? Thanks for any thoughts or advice!

A '13 5 speed will cruise your commute just fine. Finding one with abs would be great, but probably just as difficult as finding a DLX.
Craigslist seems to have a lot of CB's. Good luck!

The 6th gear drops about 500 RPM off the top end at 75 mph from what I've heard so thinking that the '13 wouldn't be good for that is absurd.
I commuted round trip 115 miles a day for a year on my '13 with no issues and got between 44 and 52 mpg doing it, depending on how fast I was going that day. It is perfectly fine cruising at 80 MPH for an hour with no issues.

My two cents is to get the 2014 'standard' in black, learn to accept the color. I like the red better too, but wanted the extra gear and wasn't prepared to drive around the country looking for the Deluxe.

Thanks for the input. I did in fact find a '14 standard on Craigslist, so that is always an option.

I didn't mean to say the 5 gear wouldn't be good, only that 6 might be better - just judging from the reviews I've read. Thanks for your perspective; it sounds like you have a similar commute to mine.

I think that is what I am leaning towards as well. As stated by another user, the '13 ABS are just as hard to come by, and I'm ready now after waiting as long as I have. The dealers I've talked to in other parts of the midwest are having the same experience when trying to find them. It's funny, when I got my current bike ('99 sv650), I wanted black and ended up with red; it took me a while to get used to that as well.

Pbhati, Which ever CB you decide on you will love. It does not say in your post if you have been able to test ride one yet but any of the current CB1100's are great to ride and are very capable in all riding environments. Best of luck in your search.

Check out Samurider. For a price, you can turn your CB white, blue, black, or retro 750 candy colors. You'll be happy with whatever CB you find, don't overcook those neurons ruminating over color or year. Enjoy!

For what it's worth, I have the 2013 standard in bad ass sexy red... I don't see what all the fuss is about the extra gear... the 5 gears work fantastic for me and I often ride 80 on the interstate, no problems... the standard breaks are awesome! You won't regret it!

I have a 2014 std in black.
The 6 gear is not used very often at all. I can cruise hwy in 4th and if Im feeling like stretching her out I use 5th gear. I am glad 6th gear is there but I honestly have only used it just to use it.. because it was there. Now I have heard the 2013 is geared differently than the 2014 so idk.. The 2014 std has a crappy seat, depending on your personal experience it may be different but most hate it. I just ordered a corbin seat for my bike. 30 day wait! Anyway, just chiming in to maybe offer a different perspective. Happy Trails<<<
