Well done ride4now! Thanks for sharing the details of your conversation. I suspect one or both of them will find their way to this forum due to you. I was hoping you'd mention the desire, by some, for spoked wheels. Regardless, I'm cautiously optimistic, based on what you've learned, the CB will return to North America. I don't see myself trading in my 2014 Standard but hope that with continued production, there will be expanded aftermarket options. I'm sure our friend Takashi is hoping the same thing.

MG, I did forget about the spoked wheels but I'll mention it in my email when I send the photo's. If anyone else has any other 'requests' let me know and I'll pass it on. Also, maybe we ought to do a poll on color. I don't know how to do that here so perhaps someone could set it up.

My two cents would be to ask for better 'options' when mounting side bags. So we can add such without moving turn signals.

I personally liked the design and color of the yellow tank that was in the promo pics.

Great report, ride4now, and great to hear they seem to be brainstorming what to do with the model in future tweaks. It certainly doesn't seem dead. The fact that they have so much money invested in the R&D tells me they will try to keep it going if only to recoup more of that expense. I would agree, that the spokes and 4 into 4 would have to be offered. As far as taking it to $13K, IDK if it would sell well at that price.

I too, absolutely love my '13 and don't easily envision me buying a new one and taking a $6,000 loss, but who knows?

Same here, I'm very happy with what I have, have it farkled up to my satisfaction, well almost, but like you, I'm not going to take a huge hit just to have spoke wheels and pipes, heck I have three other bikes and love them all equally, they all get there turn in the rotation, in other words the right tool for the right job. I at least won't buy anything new, I'll wait a few years and buy used. Even though I did buy this one new.

AIM Expo is really turning into a must- go event, for the trade, media and consumers. Great report! As for suggestions for the next version of the CB, I'd have to say a wider range of factory accessories and gear. All of the Retro/ Modern competition...Ducati Scrambler, Triumph Bonnie even Royal Enfield, ferchrissakes, has model- specific stuff. And it builds brand pride.

As for the price, Honda has a problem on it's hands in the US. The VFR, CTX, CB1100, CBR...all of them get heavily discounted, end up in the catalog for a year or two after the model year in order to sell, and used values are crap. I'd suggest a more value-- oriented pricing scheme.

Yeah, I'd never buy any bike brand new any longer. EVERYTHING is available gently used. Let the guy who just had to have it when it first came out take the 25-30% depreciation hit. I was very happy to pay $7010 OTD for my '13 more than a year ago.

I love stories like this. Being in SoCal, I guess I've had more than my fair share of this kind of thing, just because of location. But getting an INTERESTED exec's ear is just awesome. Well done on taking advantage of the situation!
As others have mentioned, I'd love spoked wheels. Maybe a Ferrari red option, or bright blue (non-metallic), like the CB400F colors. Always color-matched side covers - and I personally prefer the '13 style covers to the '14...no offense intended to DLX owners . I'd love 4-into-4 pipes, and I guess I understand their weight concern, but why not just make them a dealer option, maybe?

Thanks for the great information. I look almost daily on the web to see if Honda plans on manufacturing the CB1100 in the future and what if any markets will receive a new model. I figured I was paying top dollar in early 2014 on a standard black model but it really was the bike I was looking for. I just didn't expect prices to drop so drastically in some markets. I don't plan on ever getting rid of this bike unless Honda updates the CB1100 significantly in the future. If they lightened it up to say 480 pounds wet and got close to 100 horsepower I would take the hit on trade in and do it again without hesitation. Thanks again for the write up.
