I have a different take (opinion) on that statement.

The difference to me was quite simple.

Oil tight. Electrics that worked. Reliability. No kick starting.

I've had plenty of earlier generation Harley's.

Functionality. Plain and simple.

That's the difference to me.

NOTHING about how one looks over the other one.

That's MY opinion, and I'm sticking to it! Thumbs Up

While they take more upkeep, and they look a bit less retro, to me the stainless steel headers represent quality. I consider my Hawk GT to be a gem of a bike and it features SS headers as well. I was grateful for that fact when I bought the bike after it had already been around for 19 years. I was able to return the headers to like new condition with nothing more than time using some polish and elbow grease. Of course they would end up with a golden hue after a few rides (which is exactly how Honda presented the bike in their marketing images), but there was no pitting or rot/rust to deal with.

Mine after 5000 mi. Where you live, what kind of exhaust you have, how hard you ride and how often you clean it can all contribute to various color changes, it's completely normal.

After looking at the pic again from the OP that is just plain dirty. Needs a good scrubbing

My question is really if the pipes indicate the bike as being abused. I've seen pics of the bronzing as being more uniform, but this one seems to look blotchy and speckled/pitted.

Thanks.

Do the bronzed headers on this 2013 CB1100 look normal for approx 4000 miles?

Thanks! --CB360T
Don't worry about the spots and the darkening of the headers. It is normal for this machine. The spots happen from riding in rain and not washing them when you get home. I ride my CB normal, no abuse at all and my headers look the same way. It definitely isn't a sign of abuse. It's tough to keep a bike clean in the winter. 5,500 sounds like a fair deal and 4,000 miles isn't much at all for a three year old bike. I'd buy it if you're looking for a CB 1100.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. As I recall, back in the day, the first thing that 9 out of 10 UJM owners did was ditch the beautiful chrome pipes and fit a MAC/Kerker/Yosh 4 into 1 SS pipe.

When I initially saw the 4 into 1 on the CB1100 I thought that's what Honda was going for.
