Yes, I wanted to go even faster so I traded it in and bought a 2013 Z1000. Had that for a year and a half then saw a steal on my CB 1100 and fell in love with the retro roadster look. The XR was a great bike. Sometimes I can be spontaneous when I see another bike I like and want to try out. Don't be a hater.

That sounds like a person that does care very much one way or the other. Anyway I personally dont pass judgement on any bike. Every brand of bike serves a purpose for someone. Harleys may have had thier ups and downs at some point but the later models are very good. I was talking to a gentleman who has put 180k miles on an ultra glide with original motor. I know you could care less. Im just saying. Im not the only one on the forum which has or does own one.

Harley stock is taking a beating. Their debt to revenue ratio is above 300 percent whereas the other bike manufacturers are down in the low hundreds. Their labor costs are high in the U.S.A but the quality is considered poor by owners according to MSN Money today so they are again (like the 60s and 70s) facing manufacturers who can market higher quality bikes at lower costs and they are making more interesting bikes as time goes by, again according to MSN Money.
I notice however that their resale value is much higher expressed as a percent of purchase price than my 14 CB1100 and that for even a regular run of the mill Dyna or Wide Glide.
That is a big plus. Then there is the aura or feeling that goes with riding a Harley. To the past owners of Harleys, does that feeling wear off and if not then why did you go for a Honda this time over a Harley? I think the answer to that question will explain why Harley is facing troubles down the road just as they did with the Japanese invasion in the late sixties but this time they also face a great looking Triumph line and great bikes from the Italians, bikes readily available in most middle to large size American towns that perhaps handle better and perhaps hold together better at a cheaper price.
Not that I am typical for an American buyer, but while I do look at the Harley site from time to time I also look at the Moto Guzzi and Aprilia and certainly the Japanese websites more often to see what I might jump into in a few years for a long distance touring bike.
Having said all that. Setting an Ultra Glide on cruise all the way to Sturgis is on my bucket list.
