This sixth gear 2013 wannabe is getting a 38T rear sprocket to go along with a 19T front. That's as far as I want to go. 60mph in 5th will be around 3100 rpm. 6th gear will still be in my imagination.

Lol I have just over 5200 miles on my 14 since April (plus 11,763 on the ST, 655 on the Majesty' and 157 miles on my nephews NC700x in Nevada...Our Men's Fall Trip coming up in a couple weeks, a week in east Central Kentucky this year, should put me over 20,000 miles, my goal for this year..it's been a great year of riding). Anyhow, no issues at all with the CB, great motorcycle. The rear brakes are better on the 14 than on the 13, but still not as good as they could be IMO. I switched the left handlebar switch to one off a 13 and haven't had an issue since although you still have to remember to punch the button to cancel the turn signals which I am pretty good at after all these years ( not perfect at it though but usually wont go more than a block or two with it on on rare occasions). It does have indicator flashers to remind you, although they are too small and too low on the dash IMO. Probably my only real gripe at this time. Mileage is better on the 14 than on the 13 by a few (57 vs 54 mpg). I am really, really happy with the 14 DLX.

G'day again ferret. What do you mean by not as good as in:
Quote:Anyhow, no issues at all with the CB, great motorcycle. The rear brakes are better on the 14 than on the 13, but still not as good as they could be IMO. It's easy to lock up the rear on my '10. So, in that regard, the rear brake is effective. Also, within the limitations of my heavy foot, able to be applied with some delicacy, for instance, in a corner. I'm curious because I know you have referred to this in the past. Cheers

Mate, you must have a very heavy foot!

No way in the world, standing on the rear brake, could I lock up my non ABS 13. Couldn't even bring the bike to a halt using the rear brake only. It was only effective at stopping the bike under 10 mph.
My 14 feels better than the 13 but I still don't think I could lock it up, maybe I will try today. Wait I can't ... the 14 has ABS. Duh! I will try some rear wheel stops from 40 or 30 and see what happens and report back. (note: I always use my front brakes when stopping .... actually use BOTH brakes when stopping 100 % of the time) day before yesterday I came around a curve running 45 in a 45 zone, and a school bus coming from the opposite direction had stopped. 3 cars in my lane had stopped to let them unload per the law, i couldn't see the situation until I came around the curve, total surprise. I hit both brakes hard, I mean HARD HARD. Foot mashed, 4 fingers on lever squeezing toward grip. I didn't have a lot of room, this was emergency braking. If I had been on my ST, both wheels would have locked and been putting down a black stripe. The CB never locked up, and I never felt the ABS kick In. It just stopped quickly and without drama. I was amazed the ABS didn't kick in. Not even sure it works on my bike.

That's what I have found as well, the rear brake alone just isn't effective - not bad mind you, just not something I can use all by itself. The fronts are incredible. Just a wee bit of front with all of the rear and the bike stops nicely. All front and no rear and I have to think about going over the bars.

Mmmmm. Maybe I do have a heavy foot as I have had two rear brake lock ups in the last few months that I recall. That doesn't include my last years lowside on dirt
. Anyway, interesting. Cheers And just adding to that, it's interesting that my rear pads were well worn, to the limit indicators, while I still had some meat on the fronts. This prompted a pad change in conjunction with a recent, necessary, tyre change. Cheers again.

Hmm, my rear brake is effective. I'm pretty sure I can and have locked it up (both the Griso and the Honda have had rear brake issues this year - for completely different reasons but I've had to work on both, new pads on the Griso and new disk on the Honda) so I've been out on test rides wacking the bajeebers out of the rear. I know the Griso locked up pretty good and I'm pretty sure I did the same on the CB. Guess I have an experiment to do this weekend!!!

Gosh. I suppose I'll have to try too. My rear brake certainly locks easily on dirt.

Some of us complained pretty loudly about poor rear braking. Only one member's dealer would actually do anything about it and it was a LOT of air in the brake line.
My dealer pretty much blew me off so I bled my own line and a LOT of air was in it. Ferret traded his 13 before ever bleeding his. My rear brake is much much better now, but I've never come close to locking it up. Now, the service manager has. He left a nice stripe in the parking lot demonstrating that it could be locked up. |
