Clean 2014 and Interesting Chain Observation

After 2 years of ownership I finally took my CB to the car wash place. Living in an apartment makes it more of a hassle than it would be to just pull the hose out if I lived in a house. The biggest reason was to get my chain cleaned up. I always keep it lubed and adjusted but after this much winter commuting it had gotten pretty caked with grime and grease. I could tell the wheel was rolling a lot easier while rotating to check the chain after getting the gunk off but didn't think much of it. We already know the CB is very particular about chain tension in regards to shifting smoothness but it would also seem that cleanliness makes a difference. After the cleaning shifting was noticeably smoother. Nice little surprise.

Sounds good. I hope you didn't shoot high pressure water directly at the chain (or wheel bearings). If so, it's possible you may have damaged the O-rings and/or pushed water past the O-rings and into the chain, driving out the factory lubrication. May be worthwhile to keep an eye on this.

Nope, was careful with the high pressure spray everywhere, I know that's gernally not good for anything on a motorcycle. I have some Motul chain cleaning spray and a brush. Worked really well actually.

I like the Motul chain cleaner and my Grunge Brush. But found their lube bunched up under the front sprocket cover. Took a spray can of Gunk to remove it all. Good thing the neighbourhood tree watcher was not around to see this stream of white degreaser and lube floating down the street to the storm sewer. Now I use Castrol chain oil. Lubes well and is much less sticky.
