In the garage or in a parking lot, given two bikes of equal weight, the one with the higher center of gravity will feel "heavier" because of the higher strength needed to keep it upright when tipping it left or right a few degrees. Probably the CB1100 has a somewhat high CG because of the vertical engine placement and the weight of the 4-cylinder DOHC head.

The issue of weight needs to be handled by each in their own way. A test ride (or push around the garage) should suffice in that matter.

Now the V7. indeed, she will embarrass the unwary in the twisty bits. She light, nimble and fleet of foot (alas, just a wee bit too small for me - although I could make due, but the V9 seems to be a better fit). And will cruise all day at 80+ if you are so inclined. Nice V twin vibe, easy to adjust valve tappets - and this part in the one that hurts: Still imported to the US after all these years. Big Grin

I am, as I have been previously, grateful for the sound advice from The Ferret and others. No, Ferret, I am not too weak or too small - yet, though it feels I'm heading that way. I am not yet too old - still a callow youth of 55! Nor am I unbalanced - except after the odd beer. I'm just aware that with the V711 - quite a light bike - the ease with which I can manoeuvre it around, on and off the stand etc, contributes to my enjoyment of it and increases the likelihood that I will ride it.

Having said all that, I am somewhat reassured by feedback from forum members here - though reading some, I think my reservations are shared - and I will definitely look at this bike seriously when it hits the showroom. I'm not a man to test myself to the limit in the twisties; sedate is more my style.

The V711, by the way, is also a great bike - and due to be replaced in 2017 by the V7111 (54bhp I think).

Happy Christmas!

Hi Beerman. Whereabouts in the UK are you ?

Ah, just seen that I've asked you that before. I am in Dorset.

Beerman thanks for the clarification, I trust you know I wasn't being snarky, but truly trying to get to the gist of the issue. So, it's mainly an issue of pushing it around. A justified concern. It will be more difficult to lift and push around while standing beside it, than the V7. Being a munchkin myself, I am quite familiar with the standing off to the side with one hand on the bars and one hand on the seat to manuver the bike backwards procedure. It's never a comfortable feeling, but one I have gotten used to since I have had to employ it on every motorcycle I have ever owned. It is never easy, but it does become easier.

That's how I felt with my CB- not that it's weight wasn't manageable, but walking it around the garage and driveway it felt like the CG was higher than I'd thought it would be. And I never had any reason to criticize it when riding in some (low) mountain curves, but I do ride less spirited than I did 40 years ago.

I check the Honda Canada website everyday hoping they will offer the 2017 CB1100 EX. But I am not confident that will happen. We never did get a chance to buy the Deluxe model.

Instead they keep dumping the ugly dawgs on us like this years model with its tacky racing flag stripes and blackened engine.

I guess they are too young to know what a heritage air-cooled 4-cylinder Honda should look like.
