A note about this forum, it's history, an apology and an announcement

Ah, yes. That's like the opposite of a forced induction system, right?

Guys, no need to change a thing. Stick with the values you deem important for this forum. We're grateful for it.

Hear, Hear as they say in certain circles. This site is about 50% of why I want a CB1100, though that worries me a bit.

Guth, wait. You had Ferret in mind all the time? So I can’t take credit anymore for being first to nominate him when you said you needed a moderator? I’m shattered. I’m going to the garage and have a long talk to my CB about this Smile I mean, I joined before Mickey. (Insert whiny smiley here)

I mean, its a little known fact that the reason Cormanus got made moderator is because he sent Guth 2 cases of Vegemite Tongue

[And just so everyone knows, Guth didn’t need me or anyone else to pick a moderator, but we had fun with it back in the day.]

I simply want the definitions to be in order. If a word in no way runs afoul of any given guidelines precluding its usage, then that word should not be censored. In those same conservative churches you attended in your Midwestern youth, 'hell' was a word that was openly bandied about by all and sundry, including the preacher/pastor/priest. For that matter, so was 'damn,' at least when used in the proper context.

At our age now, having one's wrist slapped by a wooden spoon for doing nothing wrong just seems embarrassingly silly.

Not a big deal, though. I live in a world of words, so it bugs me to have perfectly valid words removed from the acceptable lexicon. By that same token, living in a world of words means there are always other, nanny-acceptable words at our disposal.

Oh, and answer my question about the Z900's buzziness compared to the CB1100's, for criminy's (<----) sake! Tongue
I thought I did; as Don Canet over at CW said, you have to really concentrate at 70 mph to even sense ANY vibration at all. The smoothest motorcycle I have ever ridden at any reasonable cruising speed, 60-90 mph in top gear. Eerily smooth.

I speculate the Z900RS is going to be as smooth or even smoother, given the different, milder state of engine tune and different chassis and handlebars.

I do agree completely with your above comments, but we work around it. It's like giving a talk at a church ice cream social. And I have been to quite a few of those.

I am a huge believer in free speech, the First Amendment, the Bill of Rights, and so on, but of course decorum has its place.

As far as riff-raff, the churches I attended, which seated maybe 50 people, didn't try to keep anyone out. They tried to get people to come in. As I recall, that was the whole idea.Angel

I very much know what it's like to be treated like riff-raff. I could dress as though I was from the Outer Banks if I wanted to, but instead I dress like a municipal service worker, Caterpillar muscle shirts, cargo shorts, Red Wing boots. It keeps the stuffy, pretentious types at bay.

Is it because how it is managed, or is it that this particular piece of machinery is a magnet for old-fart misfits, not capable of dealing with the modernity in general, and contemporary Internet forum culture in particular?
This is the best dad-gummed post I have ever read here. Problem is, just who is going to answer your question? You request erudition not in evidence. That is, unless I want to commit logorrhea and write so I can hear myself think. Nah, I calculate not.ROFL

Thanks for all the kind words, gentlemen—for, so far as I know, there are no regularly posting women.

This place is down to Guth and Ferret. I help out a bit where I can. May I say, though, it is a tribute to all the members of this forum that, unlike Messrs Gilbert and Sullivan’s policeman, a moderator’s lot is usually a happy one.

Note: I find myself in agreement with you, Ulvetanna, about the quality of rotor’s aforementioned post. On that front, guvenyou are, apparently, sufficiently erudite to address the question, I invite you so to do. After all if I have the news right, it’s a horrible winter there and house-bound members of this august place may well enjoy a bout of your logorrhea. Cool

You are far too modest my friend. Plus, it's always cool to be able to say that we have "staff halfway around the world".

Everything I know about the CB1100 and motorcycling in general after a 20+ year absence I learned from this forum.

Having seen how dedicated Ferret is to moderating this forum every day, hats off to him (even moderating going down the interstate @ 75mph)!

With Cormanus's responses I can tell he has the same dedication!

I've managed a few web pages in my life and I know the cost to Guth, in time and money is not free!

Guth, as said in another post, if you ever want to set up a PayPal account we can donate to or ever charge an annual fee, I'd be the first to contribute.

Keep up the good work Guth, Ferret and Cormanus!
