First 3/4 Helmet

We bought HJC 3/4 helmets last summer. The light weight and more air circulation are appreciated on warm days.

Redbirds, we are close to 90 here today. A good 15 degrees above normal. I also wore my ventilated leather jacket and no gloves lol. Yes, the air felt good.

Great looking helmet, MG. and you should be wearing earplugs whenever you are on the bike (and especially when riding two up..just sayin lol)

That seems so strange. Weather pattern here is far cooler than normal.

Thanks MTC. I know you're right and I even have a pair of earplugs in my jacket pocket and a bunch in the garage next to the bikes. I don't know why it's so difficult for me to make it part of my routine.

Not picking on anyone, certainly not my friend MG, ( and I'm probably going to get ripped... )but I'm just climbing on my soapbox.....but I find it ironic that we see photos of people wearing quality jackets, boots, riding pants and gloves but choosing to wear a 3/4 helmet and stating "I'm fully aware of the risks but choose this helmet..."
Come on guys, you'd be the first ones to rag on a t-shirt wearing crotch rocket type that zoomed past you.

I would absolutely LOVE to wear a 3/4, especially in August, but on a lot of get-offs, the rider is launched headfirst....

See post #16 above. I talk about exactly this. Ah, the irony of it all! Haha. I know you're not picking on me. And, even if you were, I wouldn't mind. I don't think it necessarily follows that if you choose to wear something that offers less than full protection, you should abandon all other gear that does. In other words, it shouldn't be that if you wear a 3/4 helmet, you might as well wear t-shirts and jeans and sneakers. Wearing a 3/4 helmet doesn't mean you don't care about protection or don't know any better. It is just one more decision, one more choice, in the act of motorcycling which, itself, is inherently dangerous.

I suspect you weren't really saying that anyone who wears less than a full face helmet might as well abandon other protective gear for the sake of consistency. But I guess I don't see the irony in the way that you do. If we truly wanted to be as safe as possible, we wouldn't ride at all.

Edit: This morning, while wearing my new 3/4 helmet, I split lanes. Tonight, when I get home, I'll likely eat pizza and have ice cream for dessert.

George, I truly appreciate your concern, but apparently you have not read much of my stuff. I clearly and always state each adult should be free to choose what they want or do not want to wear. I would never rag on riders who wear Ts, jeans, work boots, gym shoes, or ride bare handed (because I do all those things myself) or those who ride with open face, 3/4 , or modular helmets (again because I do) or choose to ride without helmets either, because what they choose to wear while riding is absolutely none of my business. To each their own. That has always been my philosophy and always will be my philosophy. I do not preach safety to anyone, and I don't understand others who feel they have the right/need to preach it to me. Sometimes I wear all the gear. Sometimes I wear very little. Each time, my choice. I will make the decisions that affect me and allow others to make decisions for themselves. Simply put, If they choose poorly, it's on them. If "I" choose poorly, then it's on me.

With vision, hearing and reflexes degrading as we continue to age, we ourselves more than likely create the greatest safety risk as we choose to continue to ride. Especially given the average age of those if us who make up this forum.

Maybe we should just be glad that we still remember that we own safety gear when we head out for a ride.
