Funny how a crash makes for re-evaluation. After my broken ribs- while in a heavy full leather jacket with full spine, chest, shoulder, elbow pads- I am looking at airbags.

I think she knew she needed the armored pants, that's why she bought them, but after a year of riding and a thorough exasperation with the level of heat we experience down here, she kind of put them aside. I don't think it's so much a re-evaluation as it is a determination to keep doing what she enjoys, and to have the things that make it possible. She knew from day one this is probably what her first crash was going to look like, and she was actually pleasantly surprised with her level of injury not being as bad as she thought it would be.
I disagree that if its too hot for full gear, it's too hot to ride. to me, it just means you need better gear. It's like when people say "it's too cold to ride." pshaw. you just dont have the right stuff. the bottom line is she didn't have everything she needs. she also could have done with a set of crash bars and muffler sliders and axel sliders and all that. in fact, she'd already been talking about getting them. she just didn't have them yet. we evolve into our motorcycling careers, and all the equipment doesn't come at once.
You know first had that the amount of money you spend on your gear doesn't matter so much in the end. you just wear what makes you comfortable and make choices. Even the airbags you're eyeing won't keep you safe in a realistic sense. the best thing for a motorcyclist is to get on knowing full well that things aren't going to always go perfectly, and that bodily injury is essentially inevitable. She had this in her mind from day one when she took her MSF and i think it's the reason she's not the least bit shook from this incident.

Thanks man! it's a bit more than a scab, let me tell you. It's actually a funny coincidence. As a child she never learnt how to ride a bicycle. I taught her how in her 20's. she evolved all the way from that to owning her own triumph. The reason she never learnt to ride a bicycle was because as a little kid she fell over on her bike really hard and skint her knee really hard...hard enough to leave a scar that she still has to this day. it made her quit wanting to learn to ride a bicycle and she didn't even consider it again til she was an adult. cut to this weekend and she crashes her bike, leaving what i'm sure will be a serious scar on her knee. its the same circumstance, just a difference of scale and severity. she's not quitting this time though. i'm proud of her.

Sorry to hear Adam, but glad she is OK and just minor things.
Sometimes experience like this = light caliber, is needed to be awaken and alerted about motorcycling.
We all most likely went through minor things.
Heal fast and permanently Adam's wife!!

Sorry to hear. Glad she was able to walk away relatively unharmed. I think the important thing here is that the wreck didn't break her morale and she's willingly looking forward to getting back on 2's 
Road rash sucks, specially in a flex spot such as knees. My recommendation would be to religiously apply those honey-like patches for fast healing, and perhaps use the WFH advantage(if she has one) to keep her leg in a cast-like straight position and minimize any flexing when possible. There's also staying away from the sun so that it doesn't scab ugly
I also second the earlier sweat over blood comment. Although humidity is a b*tch on hot summer days, even if you're on the move

she's had no thoughts of backing away from motorcycles. she enjoys it a lot and doesn't want to quit.
