Wife's first crash - misterprofessionality - 07-20-2020
This is a great community so I'd like you all to offer my wife your condolences/congratulations for joining the club that so many of us are in. After a little over a year on the road as a licensed rider, and a few thousand miles, she's finally had her first "real" crash.
She performed a textbook lowside on a tight corner in Johns Island, SC on her Triumph Street Twin. Seems as though she came in just a bit too hot and didn't get back on the throttle in time to pick the bike back up, drastically exceeding the max lean angle of the bike. by the time her pegs started dragging she was no longer carrying enough momentum to stay upright, and executed a short belly luge into the grass and dirt just off the road. no serious impact, no broken bones, but the bike is going to have a righteous insurance claim on it and she did suffer a pretty serious meat-crayon style injury on her left knee.
She's currently bandaged at home and planning on ways to better protect herself and the bike. quite frankly she has some kevlar armored pants in her closet already but chose not to wear them because they're too heavy and hot for 95 degree weather. It wasn't lost on her that had she been wearing them she wouldn't even have seen the inside of an ambulance. her jacket, made of the same material, looks almost perfectly undamaged . She's planning on having me help her pick otu and install a full set of protective attachments for her triumph. Crash bars, shorter mirrors, clamp sliders for the mufflers, axel sliders, everything.
So, she's in the club now, and I'd say she's a BAMF and an all around tough lady.

Glad she is OK! and hope her knee gets well fast!
I've been thinking of a clamp slider for the muffler as well.

I'm not sure congratulations are in order, but I'm certainly happy to hear she's okay. My SO lost control of her R850R in Baja and broke her ankle. Not a great place to damage yourself or your bike. Years later, she met a guard rail in Spain and did a number on her wrist, destroying her SV650 in the process. At least they have a good healthcare system there.
The next time it's 95 degrees, do you think your wife will reconsider ATGATT?

Sorry to hear about this! But, glad she is on the mend, and is already looking at the future, with better gear and a repaired bike. That's positive thinking!

Glad she is pretty much OK.
If it's too hot for full gear, it's too hot to ride.
Funny how a crash makes for re-evaluation. After my broken ribs- while in a heavy full leather jacket with full spine, chest, shoulder, elbow pads- I am looking at airbags.
Are there any muffler slider rings that don't look tacky?

Sorry to hear about her accident and I hope that she will be back on the bike soon. Yes, it is very hot at the moment and that's why I leave early in the morning for a ride and be home before noon. Remember "it is better to sweat than bleed" A nice shower after a hot ride makes is easier to deal with than bandages.

lol, no, there are most definitely not. she's fine with it though. she was just saying she imagines her triumph will look pretty gnarly with all the equipment on it.

Bummer Mr P but glad to hear she's alright. It's been hot here lately too and to be honest I have made the same decision regarding the Kevlar Jean's. Just today in fact I rode in my Wranglers instead of the Iron Workers kevlar. The other day it was near 100 and I rode the CB to my grandsons ballgame in jeans , a high viz t shirt and an open face helmet., I'm perfectly aware of the risks, but as an adult, accept the consequences if I have made a poor decision and it doesnt work out well for me.
99 % of the time I am ATG, but reserve the right to choose not to on occasion.
Hope her scabs heal quickly and the Triumph gets repaired and she is back on the road soon.
