Car choice for motorcycle enthusiasts

I remember when the Legend first came out. It was back in my insurance adjuster days, and I went out to look at a new Legend Coupe that had been tapped by one of our insureds. The owner was quite full of himself. I said "Wow, nice car", to which he answered "Yes, nice EXPENSIVE car", and looking at the Ford Taurus company car I had arrived in, told me that I would never be able to work hard enough in my lifetime to be able to afford an Acura Legend.

I do like Land Cruisers! I’d love one but prices are steep.

Taurus SHO? Yeah, I wish. This was an insurance company car. Base model with plastic hubcaps. Which we cool guys pulled off to make ‘em look more tough for the rougher neighborhoods of early 1990s L.A.

Interesting topic this. I agree that car choice has nothing to do with the choice of motorcycle, but I believe that both a car a motorcycle need to serve a purpose. For every single person the purpose is different, and then we all have biases. I don't think that a truck or a van is necessary if one wants to haul bikes around, I solve that with a trailer, and almost any car can tow a single bike on a trailer. I am biased towards estates, so I have a couple of those, any can tow at any given time and as I have a long highway commute I look for cars with bigger understressed engines. I still like a car to drive like a car though, so as much as SUVs or pick-up trucks or vans are appealing, I stick to cars.

Knew an owner who had a "sleeper" Taurus: Rusty and kinda saggy lookin', but the SHO engine was babied. I think he drove it to 500,000 kms before trading it.

Ferret, an estate is a traditional term for wagon. You know, those things they don’t really sell here in the US any more.

What is an estate? Gentleman above said it all. Wagon, estate, station wagon, caravan (over in some parts of Europe) - all alternative names for what is basically a hearse lol

If you want to be extremely formal, you'd call a wagon a Shooting Brake. If you look it up, you'll find that the name basically describes the car's purpose.

I lament the passing of wagons in the U.S. Not necessarily the big family trucksters of my 1970s childhood, but it was cool when a wagon was included in the lineup of almost any car you'd want. Corollas, Accords, Focus, etc. Sure, SUVs are nice, but having to get on a ladder to wash my wife's otherwise smallish CRV is a chore, and we don't always need such a tall car.

My brother's primary driver for the last 20 years or so has been a Volvo because they have a wagon in their line up that is both sporty and utilitarian.

I always thought that "shooting brake" mostly referred to 2-door wagons, usually of a more sporty style and "estates", "estate wagons", and "station wagons" mostly referred to 4 door wagons. (with notable exceptions of the Chevy Nomand and early Ford Ranch Wagons and a few other less notable exceptions that were just called "2-door wagons" in the US <yawn&gtWink.
