Car choice for motorcycle enthusiasts

The oil companies may be greedy, but when you only buy three gallons at a time to fill a CB, it doesn't seem to sting so much.

The whole Electric vehicle proposition makes a little more $$$ sense in Europe as we pay so much for fuel, close to $6 a US gallon at the moment in Ireland. As you can guess most of this is Government tax and if we all switched to EV's that is a massive income stream the Government is going to lose. That tax has to be replaced with another tax from somewhere but no-one seems to want to discuss that thorny issue.

All new Diesel & Petrol car sales are banned from 2030 here and someone will have to come up with a massive infrastructure spend to a) generate Electricity and b) distribute it. They would want to be starting now but of course no-one is. I'm so going to look after my CB to make sure its in great running order in 2030!

Yay!!! Clap

Heck, I went from a 472 cubic inch land mass to a V8 Mustang, to a Fiesta and a motorcycle. I think I'm at least moving in the right direction.

Ooh, those look cool, Peter. Years ago, there was a land sail area in Fountain Valley, near my office. It was in a large park on a triangular airstrip that had been used during WW2 for coastal defense. One side of the triangle was for land sailers, one side for radio controlled airplanes, and one side for model rockets. All gone now, thankfully transformed into a nature area, not housing.

So, fossil fuels, electric, and now we're talking about wind energy!

All of us are moving in the right direction. The 5.7 Hemi in my Ram1500 that PB and others are trying to shame me about gets as good or better gas mileage than most compact cars produced from 1980 to 2000 (used older vehicles for comparison since we're talking about moving along a continuum). Add to that stat the fact that we drive fewer than 8,000 miles/year in it and that it has comparable GHG emissions to much smaller vehicles that are just a little bit older than it, and I feel comfortable that we're moving in the right direction. The nice thing about the pick up, is that it holds more guns than a Prius or even a Tesla... which is nice.

I've tried ice boating in a real iceboat once (A one-design class boat, but I can't recall the class). They're really fast and a lot scarier than the small sailboats I was sailing at the time. My brother had a Windsurfer sail rigged to what was essentially 3 ice skates on a small platform. He's a pretty gutsy guy and said he wouldn't do that again--way too fast and the potential fall....

So now he just bought his first motorcycle. LOL there's an irony there, I think.
