Well, this is kewl.

Honda, KTM, Piaggio, and Yamaha Form Electric Battery Consortium.

"Now four of the world’s most powerful motorcycle makers have signaled their intention of banding together to develop a universal standard for swappable electric motorcycle batteries, in a move that could bring a new level of clarity to how the future will look."

That is fantastic. That is a good collection of leaders to support such a movement.

Now it will be a race to see who swappable battery offering will be standard.

Betamax or VHS?

I sort of see Honda as the Sony of the motorcycle world, so... Betamax?

This should be enabling since "power" will now be mainly defined by:

* The available battery technology,
* And the motor(s).

It would be easy to imagine a near future motorcyclist falling totally in love with their frame/suspension/brake set-up, but getting bored with the motor drives and possibly the batteries (due to range, weight, cost, peak output, etc.). They would simply tweak out these components and load in the latest algorithms to tune their beast.

Resistance is futile.

Hopefully they can rectify the battery situation.
