This is the reason for China's success.
This is the reason for China's success.
Once upon the time during the early 1960s western nations thought similarly of Japanese products - and many of them were dubious. Of course we know Japanese quality today. No doubt a good model for China and South Korea (who are very, very well ahead). China will excel, there is no doubt. The question instead is: What about the other nations?

No need to answer. Lest not forget Staintune instead.

But it isn't altogether true, is it? While I remember well being encouraged not to buy Japanese products because they were cheap and were prone to breaking, I don't remember the reasons Japan manufactured cheap, low-quality goods. How quickly that changed.

China's a different case. While it may produce some low-quality kit, the fact that it has a huge population and has/had very cheap labour has meant it has become a manufacturing haven for all sorts of western designed and marketed products. Apple and Nike immediately spring to mind and I've read that Boeing, General Motors and Caterpillar also ave a significant presence in China. Google tells me Honda has 7 plants in China. China's current economic success has, among other things, received a handsome contribution from western manufacturers keen to keep their costs low.

There's a certain irony. I think.

Yes - and the largest communist nation is playing both sides of the fence very well. They have historic precedence to learn and leverage of what to do, what not to do, and what to improve on. Once "critical mass" is achieved, the tether is self-cut and there could be a world reckoning. This is not a profound statement. Many have been well aware for decades and we've all participated in the rise of that nation.

After that time has come, ensure you have everything you need to keep the CB1100 running reliably into your dim days.

Nah. Just a little drama. We all contribute directly and indirectly in the rise and fall of nations through our wallet. So, we can't complain too much.

Maybe Staintune had issues made unaware to us. Maybe the market cannot sustain high-end, well built and engineered exhaust craftmanship. I wish they were more successful.

Can you find out whether there are any in the inventory to be auctioned? If so, try to keep an eye on who buys the stock and then contact them. Otherwise you'll have to scour the second hand markets.

While Staintune had been known for good quality stainless exhausts, conditions change over time, and businesses come and go. Almost every '90s Ducati had a pair of their long polished cannisters. Aside from some specials like airhead mufflers, those cannisters were what they were still selling to the end.

Other companies got into the stainless exhaust market, Staintune's exclusivity waned, and their market share dropped. Stainless material became cheaper, design and manufacturing became cheaper, and OEMs started making stainless exhaust standard.

Meanwhile, Staintune kept making those round and oval canisters. But look at the shapes others like Yoshimura, Arrow, Leo Vince and Akrapovic make - interesting, form-fitting, multi-section hydro-formed curves and trapezoidal cannisters in carbon fiber, stainless, and titanium, with a variety of tip shapes in different shapes.

They had a nice long 30-year run, but their demise was their own stagnation.

Staintune Lives On!

"With a beaming smile and a full heart I am so happy to announce:

At the final hour (literally) Staintune has been able to secure a sale deal.

This will assure the name and more importantly the product, quality and customer support lives on!

The Australian based company Torqit http://www.torqit.com.au of Beresfield NSW, saw the opportunity

for Staintune to be able to be incorporated into their production and business plan. The deal was done!"

A good outcome afterall.

Regards NRTM
