I use a 1" thick cobralink lock/cable since I do not have a garage. It's no longer available. I think its an excellent deterrent for the casual theif. For the dedicated thief, I don't care what situation you leave your bike in theyre gonna get it.

Any visible, physical deterrent will make a thief consider an easier target. Thieves are not well known for their diligence.

Punk seemed determined making all that racket with the grinder tool. Not sure if an audible/visual deterrent would make a difference. Maybe if the motorcycle sprayed a permanent ink-dye, skunk smellin' pepper spray, or sumthin' at the target.

There actually is a Skunk Lock that emits a spray when cut.

You gotta be careful with that. Some places in the US have these insane "booby trap" laws where a criminal can press charges against you for setting traps intended to be triggered by attempted theft or trespassing.

(*sigh*) Yeah, not unlike, " ... I am suing you for bodily injury incurred while you were defending yourself from attempted homicide."
" ... oh, and by the way, sorry about the loss of your eye and the brain swelling. See you in court."

From local lore:
A Hell's Angel in Oakland would park his bike on the front lawn with the key in the switch.
"I dare you to take it"
is the implied message.
Whoa..
