So, thanks to m in sc, here’s a picture of that Distinguished Gentleman on a Honda Grom with a round headlight and a 250 cc 2-stroke motor. Neat.
But is it still a Grom?
When does a Grom* cease to be a Grom? When it gets a new tank? When it gets a new frame? When it gets a new engine? A combination of those things?
Discuss.
* or any motorcycle …

Ah, Ferret, you're right as usual.
Instead of making a nonsense of this exchange I'll put the correct photo below. m in sc talks about his Grom [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=19105&pid=348573#pid348573]here.
The topic remains open for discussion.

Lots and lots of Groms around here. See them about every day. Biggest mod I notice is they usually have a pipe and are pretty loud. Braaaap braaaap

My eyes tend to gravitate to the lump first on pretty well any bike, if visible.
In this case, initially I would sense the RD. After that, it would be about the new glory of the art.
lol - if there was a distracting final shaft drive, that could get second or third in my attention. (I know, pretty sick)

One of my RDs has a chromoly hand built frame.. with an rd neck and vin, rd motor, and the geometry was jigged off of a stock frame. Yes, the steering angle, swingarm length, pipe and motor position are all 'stock'. Legally, both the bikes in the picture are 74 RD350s. silver one is the lightweight.
the white one literally doesnt have a single stock unmodified part on it, aside from hardware. and all thats brand new.
I tend to refer to them as the 'lightweight' and the 'w.b.o.d." (a name my wife gave it, the 'white bike of death') or 'the lc' or 'the white bike'

That was what I was getting at, m in sc: when do the mods on a bike (or anything really) mean it should no longer be called by its OEM name. I know it doesn’t matter, but it interests me. Au₂O₃ looks to the engine; others may judge by the tank or side covers.

no matter what bike, For me, the engine is fundamental, it must remain original (in its volume), and the frame
Because both things can change the basic character far too much for me to still be able to recognize the original in it

It’s just a small calibre mod… from a dwarf goat to a champion bull
