Compare that to a 1980, and how my 1100 looked before the pipe switch:

This bike was fun from day one, and it keeps getting more fun as I make it mine!
The biggest difference that stands out to me is the wheels. Totally blacked out rims provide no contrast with the tires and that look makes the bike appear much heavier to me. That look makes me think more of a bobber than anything.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that. The old comstar wheels are so bulky and heavy, but I've always liked those, too.

My comment to PowerDubs earlier in this thread was in reference to his inclusion of the '13 wheels on his '14 Standard (as pictured even earlier in the thread). They really change up the look of the bike.

You're right, that does make a difference in the look. Again, I hadn't even been paying attention to that. Great - now I have something else to think about that's going to cost me $.......

Guys- those are the '14 wheels that came on the bike. I simply stripped the black off the wheel lip. Just some painters tape, paint stripper and a scotch brite pad. Cheap and easy.
I actually don't care for the way the factory chose to do the black/silver wheels because they went into the barrel of the rim too far, too much silver- looks odd. I prefer just the lip.

lol, serves me right for not looking at the full-size image of your bike. Looking closer at your wheels I do prefer the look of the wheels on the '13 models. But I still like what you've done. I understand that many prefer the all blacked out look of the '14 models, but your solution provides a nice alternative look that makes a big difference that appeals to me. Nice modification.

It's interesting how we all have different preferences for the wheels on our bikes. I like the silver 2014 DLX cast wheels better than my spoke wheels, but since the DLX rear axle is larger than the axle on my 2017 EX it's not an easy change.
By the way PowerDubs, your bike looks really nice with the polished rims on the black wheels, chrome headlight shell and polished fins on your heads with the silver cam covers. You've put a lot of work into it.

Can you post a picture of those plates? I'd like to see it.
