There is something inexplicably pleasing about the CB1100

I could get Guth to change Ferret’s user name to Yoda. A certain appeal it has. Hmm.

Similar experience here. My ham fistedness gets me <40MPG around town, but out on country roads, it is typically in the 45-50MPG range.

Kinda startling to see LFL start flashing when I only have 85-90 miles on a tank.

Fwiw, my bike has now gone three straights days with zero brake squeal. I wonder whether the significantly warmer temps this past week have anything to do with it?

Whatever the reason, if this keeps up, man, the only thing left to complain about would be the rather meh mileage range. I'd like to see 200 miles from a tank, but so far I haven't been able to squeeze 4.4 gallons from her, and I certainly haven't been able to average 50 mpg over a full tank.

Speaking of warmer temps, for the first time I'm noticing some engine heat as I idle at stop lights. I haven't owned an air-cooled I4 since my '92 FJ1200, which, if memory serves, also gave off quite a bit of engine heat. Otherwise, the only other bike I've ever had that cooked me was my first-year ST1300, which was notorious for baking its rider, even at freeway speeds.

This bike just gave me my first warning tonight that come summer time I might be in for some serious roasting.

Is the CB1100 known to be a two-wheeled bbq?

My '17 with all of 270 miles has had just a little squeak here 'n there, but nothing too bad, nothing yesterday and today with temps in the low 60s as opposed to 45-50 last week.

My '14 got 45-46 mostly, sometimes 50-51 if I stayed under 70mph and mostly hiway. All around town, 43. My '17...43 the first time, so I'm not expecting much higher.

I rode two full summers, 80-90, no problem for me. Sure, stick your hand down there and its hot, or maybe sitting still at a light...but at speed? I don't notice it.

Pretty hot in the summer where I live and the CB’s engine is the least of my worries.

I can't say that radiant engine heat has ever been a concern on my CB, then again I also ride an ST 1300 which puts off quite a bit of heat. Not an issue wearing mc specific pants and boots, but you would definitly feel it wearing jeans and gymmers on a 90 degree day.

I've averaged over 50 mpg (usually about 55 mpg) on every tank I've ever had on the CB ( except the first tank which I believe averaged 49 mpg) as long as I wasn't on the freeway travelling over 70 mph, then it drops into the mid 40s. I have gone 225 miles multiple times and have never put more than 4.1 gallons in that I recall. I'm sure I could go 250 miles on a tank, but it would be close. When on the freeway on a trip I will refill at approx the 150 mile mark. When just ridng backroads I will fill up at the 200 mile mark approx. btw I average 46 mpg on my 1300cc 700 pound ST.

It's all in the right wrist baby! Lol

I spoke too soon, cursing myself. The front right brake squealed on the way in to work this morning.

Crap. Thought that demon was finally exorcised.

I'd say .... pull the pads and do the brake grease on the pad backsides one more time. If that doesn't work, maybe switch to a set of EBC pads. When installing, do the same brake grease treatment to the pads. I think you can fix this issue.

During my ride home tonight there was no squealing. There was only one brief squeal today, during the cool of the early morning. It was much warmer during the ride home. I'm thinking the ambient temperature may have something to do with it, since most of the worst squealing occurred in the cold.

Unless the squealing has well and truly gone away by then, I'll probably switch to EBC HH pads with my first tire change. I'll definitely grease the backs and file the edges again.

Ferret, I think maybe you've taught your bikes to run on fumes!
