That old Ford flatbed reminds me of just about every WW2 movie starring John Wayne.

Great effort, guys. New month, and like last month, I will have limited riding days due to work.
What's our August challenge going to be? Holy moly, it's already August.

Not just August, Gone. An August in the 24th year of the 21st century. Pause, and savor the moment - 'cause it is not returning.

I was just thinking about that concept yesterday... If you drive East on the 91 Freeway through Corona, you'll see the Prado Dam to your left. In 1976, when I was eight years old, they painted the dam red, white and blue for the Bicentennial. I marvelled at it at the time, and wondered about how old I'd be when the year 2000 came around. The paint faded over the years, and was barely legible until a few months ago when the dam was repainted. Looking at it with its new paint job, it felt like yesterday when I first saw it as an eight-year-old, 46 years ago (staring at it through the T-Top of Step-Dad's brand new '76 Regal, I might add).

lol - I thought similarly about 1999 and 2000 once upon a time (probably 11:35 am in some classroom wondering why it is taking so long to strike 12 o'clock noon for lunch).

A segway into an August Forum Monthly Photo Challenge?

OK ... Happy August everyone! Let's clear a couple of things up.

1st - This is the 23rd August of the 21st Century. The 21st century began 1/1/2001. Every bit as worthy of savoring, though.

2nd - Great July topic. Mainly because I was able to stumble upon a classic car and managed to get a photo submitted.

3rd - The Ferret and his military Jeep pic was the first entry for July and so he gets to pick the pic for August. And I have no doubt that an august pick it will be.

Personally, I prefer the zero-based numbering convention.

Besides, is "0 A.D." in B.C? Is "0.5 A.D" in B.C.?

The CB1100 emblem is a part of the CB1100 machine. Hence, it would not satisfy the "candidate request".


And Gone, no, no, no, ... no taking off the side cover and placing it next to the bike.

That would be like taking off your arm, putting beside you and claiming it is not yours.

GO, you are lucky that I'm too lazy to go dig in the garage and find one of my spare side covers to put next to the bike to take a picture... just to make a point.

the only caveat being it has to be taken while out on a ride. Can't be in your garage or on your drive way. Background is unimportant although it would be nice if there was something interesting in the background too (but not necessary)

I took today's pic on a ride to Ripley, Ohio, a small town on the banks of the Ohio River about 35 miles upstream from the town I live in. Ripley put out these benches for people to sit on and watch the river flow by, maybe spot a boater/skier/jet skier, or one of the many barges that use the river as a route to get someplace. Ripley has a lot of history due to The John Rankin house which was a safe place for slaves escaping from the south. His house was high on the first hill back from the river and a light hung outside which was very visible from across the river in Kentucky guiding the slaves to freedom.
