Very nice pic and background story Mix. Tanks!

By the way, one of the remaining still-flying Lancaster bombers parks in my neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. For years pre-Covid the bomber flew overhead Saturday and Sundays from spring to autumn seasons. I even chased it down with the CB1100 to try and gain some low altitude banking shots of the fine aircraft. The rumble of the engines is intoxicating.

The bomber frequently flies to the U.K. to perform air shows.

People can fly on the bomber as passengers as it tours Lake Ontario and the greater Toronto, Ontario region. A ticket is about $4000 Cdn.

This is one of 83 Neutrality Signs constructed in Ireland in WW2 at the behest of the USA (slightly comprimising our neutrality!). This one reads 6 EIRE. The US bombers used the signs for navigation purposes after crossing the Atlantic. The signs also helped reduce the chances of the Luftwaffe from bombing Ireland by accident, which did happen. 25 of the 83 signs have been found and some are being restored now. Obviously they are meant to be seen from the air rather than ground level, so the photo only really shows the 6 and that's upside down. The EIRE part is between the 6 and the CB1100. This sign is at Howth Head near Dublin.

I didn't know about those signs, you learn something new everyday.
Nice picture Smile
When I see things like this it makes me think about buying a camera drone.

RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge

“This sign is at Howth Head near Dublin”. 3 years ago the last couple of days of our vacation in Ireland was spent in Howth. On the way there I asked our Uber driver if Howth had good seafood. The Driver replied in his heavy Irish accent “ if yah can’t find good seafood in Howth yah won’t be finding it anywhere else in Ireland”.

One of those days the family went into Dublin to see the sights while I walked into Howth along the strand. I misjudged the distance somewhat and knocked out 2.5 miles in cowboy boots on hard tarmac. Ended up on the pier at lunch sitting at at table in front of a seafood restaurant eating a crab dish and sipping a cool pint while my feet began to stop hurting. As I was eating the staff of the restaurants would come out and go directly to the trawlers and bring the fresh catch back into the kitchens.

After finishing my lunch I moved to the next restaurant and ordered a clam dish and another pint while once again at an outside table. As I was sitting there in the cool Irish sun I remember thinking ‘ indeed... if you can’t find good seafood in Howth you won’t find it anywhere else’’. That evening the wife and I came back and ate dinner on the pier.

I wish I had known about those markings as well. I would have made it a point to go see them in spite of my footwear.

Frulk,
I'm glad you managed to satisfy your seafood craving in Howth. I hope you saw King George IV's footprints while you were there. If not, you'll just have to come back for another visit. George IV arrived in Howth by boat in 1821 (drunk, apparently). He was supposed to have landed in Dun Laoghaire, the other side of Dublin Bay. A local sculptor then carved the outline of his shoes in to the granite quayside, and there they remain.

Malin Head, Eire 80 is the Irelands most Northerly sign. It's a bit in the middle of nowhere but a great ride up there on quiet country roads.

The month is almost over! Mixagon gave us an easy challenge and the only submittals came our friends from the British Isles! Very interesting submittals BTW.
I rode to Monroe, NY today to capture this picture of a F-86L Sabre:

Since the temperature was near 90 degrees F, I stopped at this ice cream stand in Pine Island, NY to cool down. Luckily, I the ice cream didn't fall off the cone while I was fumbling with my iPhone to get this picture!
