Engine turns over but no star after sitting few days

Still cannot rule out flooded engine. Also, still cannot rule out weakened battery. A weak cell will contain above average water, which when frozen, is useless.

Was there excessive discharge out the pipes upon start-up?

In any case, just curious.

Glad danger Cool was averted Honda Fan.

Exhaust didn’t have any discharge just a really strong smell of gasoline that went away after few minutes and it was working completely normal. I’m definitely ordering new battery since one in it is original from 2014. I’ll
Swap it out for good measure. I would think that it would be very hard to flood the engine with modern EFI system.

Yes, good idea.

And yes, it is significantly more difficult to flood an EFI-based engine. However, when it does happen, it is significantly harder to clear it too. I flooded my Aprilia once, it just roared to life and then stalled ... and then flooded. An hour later, the condition was cleared and it started. There was a smell of rich fuel in the air too.

On a M/C EFI system, at least on Sportsters, when the engine does not start within a few seconds, the fuel pump is interrupted. May need to turn the key off, then on, to be able to get fuel to the injectors. Not sure about the CB, so this is just a supposition.

May have flooded, then not enough fuel.

When my 2014 came out of the crate, Nov 2017, the battery would not pass a load test.

Good deal and exactly what I thought would happen.

On these fi bikes you can't crank the throttle at all or it overloads them or something. Then they have to sit awhile. Come back turn it on, hit the button and it should fire up (if it will crank at all). If it doesn't crank, then suspect the battery.

Most new Japanese FI bikes (all Hondas) can be cranked with the throttle wide open to clear any excess fuel (as when "fouled"). When cranking with WOT, the fuel pump circuit is disengaged.

Especially in cold weather, premium fuel is less volatile and harder to ignite than regular grade fuel. Aside from wasting money, using premium where not recommended is worse than regular grade.

Right PKDuck. Premium: Pre-detonation suppression. Agreed - regular works well in the CB, and the designers probably aimed for that requirement.

I put premium because I didn’t read what recommendation was. Regular from now on.

I have never had backfire or hesitation with 87 regular octane. Ride well Honda Fan.

I still will use the top tier companies 93 because of the extra additives and less fluctuation in their gas . Used 93 for over 35 years in ALL my engines and never had any starting/running problems with bikes or garden machinery. Do I waste money ? Perhaps but that is ok with me.
