A bit of a ride: an interlude in Sydney

Days 4-6: Sydney

I got to Sydney earlier than I needed to spend time with my son, who does not share my joy in motorcycles, and catch up with an old school friend, who does. So there was little seat time. I did, though, make the acquaintance of a number of Sydney's boutique beers and the hostelries that supply them.

Turned out that the Sydney HQ of the bike shop Deus ex Machina (discussed [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4287]here by mentallyguitarded) was just along the road from where my son lives. He’s not in the least interested in motorbikes, but he enjoyed the clothes and the coffee shop.

[url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3809&pid=56189#pid56189]Sometime in the past Pterodactyl and I worked out that, on the occasion we both rode a long way to meet, our respective wives had both been concerned that we were each off to meet an axe murderer. On the Sunday evening, I was invited to dinner with Pterodactyl and his wife. I sent Pterodactyl a text: “Shall I bring the axe? As I got into the car, Mrs Pterodactyl (a lovely person) said, “Hello. I’ve got my axe!”

We had a great dinner at a noisy and pleasant restaurant just back from Bondi Beach. A good steak and an excellent Shiraz.

On Monday (Day 6) I got another shot at the Harbour Bridge. Here it is, seen from the saddle of the CB employing the Ferret technique for photos on the move.

Great photos, as always.

No haven't seen that one but the trailer looked intriguing. Hitch did some goodies.

However, on the other hand, I have seen "Deliverance" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". Next May, Cormanus and I have agreed to meet a bunch of blokes we've never set eyes on before in some backwoods called the Great Smoky Mountains. Mmmmmmmmm......

LOL...funny that you mentioned "Deliverance". It's one of my favorite novels and I like the movie, too. If you recall, the premise for their canoe trip is to travel down a river (not too terribly far from Deal's Gap, actually) before they dammed the river to generate electricity.

The comments I heard prior to heading to Deal's Gap -- "You have to ride The Dragon at least once in your life" sounded eerily like "You have to canoe The Cahulawassee River before they dam it up".

And then there was the "Dragon Slayer" initiation for first time riders of US129...I can't really talk about it, but if you just relax it's over pretty quickly. Nothing to lose any sleep over, but you're going to want that AirHawk if you're riding the next day.

Funny how sometimes the things we are interested in don't interest our children. My son loves motorcycling and bowhunting, just like I do, but the shop owner where I buy my Hondas and Yamahas is an avid motorcycle collector. He probably has more than 300, all in like new running condition. His only son doesn't care one iota about motorcycles.
