A day on a Harley... In Hawaii
#1

I'm currently in Maui interviewing and networking with hopes of moving back asap. A friend had an extra bike so we went on a ride. I love and miss Maui like crazy, but being on a motorcycle there for the first time makes me want to move back even more.

We went upcountry and through the valley for some great twists and sights. About an 8000ft climb up from the valley preluded an amazing ocean view cruise down the north side.

The Harley was fun. 2015 forty-eight 1200. Handled much better than I had anticipated. It was obviously loud, but not too bad. Comfy stance, but I missed the standard seating position of my CB. The only gear available was a skull-bucket helmet, leaving me with no gloves and no jacket, but it was a safe ride. Being on the Harley kinda made me feel like a bad A. The stance, the noise, the fact that it was a Harley. I can see why people love them.

I did recently find out that when we ship our belongings in a container, it's allowed that we put the CB in there, saving a lot of shipping cost!

Highly recommend renting a bike in Maui!!

Beautiful place it seems (never been there). I guess having a CB and living in Hawaii might be an admirable goal. Good luck with yours.

Cool! I've got a Sportster with those exact same pipes. I love the way it sounds. I think it's beautiful but I like riding the CB1100 a lot more. The Sportster is a bar hopping bike and I don't drink much these days. Still your post has given me the itch, I'm going to take it out tonight. Cheers.

Awesome. I always thought it would be great to tour the islands on two wheels. I always pictured it would be on a Harley since they are the easiest to rent, but it would be so sweet on my CB.

We vacationed in Hawaii in 2008 and Maui was such a treat. We rented a car and drove the road to Hana, so beautiful driving along the coast there. We were with another couple at the time so renting bikes was not in the cards. What a wonderful setting for a ride. I'm jealous.

Definitely worth while. I would advise caution on the road to Hana on a motorcycle. As I'm sure you've experienced, the locals in Hana drive CRAZY. Plenty of twisties up country toward the summit and more cautious tourist drivers on the road there.
