Is GREAT to just ride...
#1

I'm one of those guys who gets to ride twice a month, if that. I don't use the bike for short runs around town, I prefer to wait till I have somewhere to go and the weather is good. Also, to take my wife cuz she loves to ride.

Anyway, we went for a long ride yesterday, ran a few shopping errands and grabbed lunch, was bit cool but the knee ache was worth it.

Point of this post is simply the love I have for the CB1100 and the pure joy of riding. Why is it that everything looks different from the seat of a motorcycle? You (we) just seem to see more, even the huge crows perched up at top of the trees.

I find riding invigorating, I don't seek out fast corners or challenging endurance rides, though I respect those of you who seek that. It's just such a nice, simple way to spend some time and 'get out there'. Maybe bit simplistic but man, what a nice ride.

That is "comfort food" Sodbuster. Nothing wrong with that. Great therapy.

Riding a motorcycle is one of the things not like anything else in life. It is so different. SCUBA diving is another.

There are quite a few things similar to riding a motorcycle, it's just that more than often one person in one lifetime has only had a chance to experience one or two of them. Not to say one person couldn't see / do much more, but it often takes a certain inclination, certain mental and body features, and a chance to get introduced early enough in life.

These "things" do all have one or two other things in common. Temporarily they reduce the complexity of our physical and social environments to a simpler "world", with simpler rules, and at the same time require us to be more alert (or immersed) into this world.

Just my point of view. I let you dwell on other "things".

Nicely said Sodbuster. The world does indeed look different from the saddle of the bike.

So very well said, Sodbuster.

While I think Sodbuster is referring to riding in general when he says, “...such a nice, simple way to spend some time...”, the CB1100 is also comparatively “nice and simple”. Uncomplicated enough to allow us a less insulated riding experience that engages us in a deeper relationship with the world through which we are passing. Yes, I suppose all riders see more when atop their motorcycles. I think CB1100 riders feel more when atop theirs.

Yep. It's also a bike that is very happy pootling along at modest speeds where you don't have to be 'on it' to get enjoyment. I think that's one reason why journo types dislike it or poo poo it. They seem duty bound to be dragging pegs and hammering around looking to expose limitations, then slagging the bike off. I have never tried to wheelie any bike of mine and have no interest in trying either.

Dragging the pegs on the CB1100 is quite a challenge, skinny tires make it plenty agile and more than capable for a spirited ride when one wishes to do so, my personal feeling about the CB1100 is that if you are riding fast enough to drag a peg through a turn, you are going too fast. It's a ride, not a race.
