I usually have my bikes mothballed for winter storage by the end of October and completed that task last weekend. It's a bit earlier than usual, but the weather has turned cold (4C/39F) this morning and I have some house projects to work on over the next few weeks so it was time.
We had another hot summer and not a lot of rain so I got in quite a bit of riding with the vintage bike club, with a few friends and many solo runs on the CB in the cool morning air in search of breakfast.
That's the way it is when you have four seasons. It's impossible to ride here in the winter due to the often brutal cold, road salt, ice, black ice, you name it.
We just grin and bear it until spring - but that doesn't mean we have to like it

During the bowels of winter opportunities are sought following road melts to get the beast on the road.
That said, time to warm up it.

This past weekend we here enjoyed a respite from the rain and cold with sunny temps in the mid 50's. Once the Saturday chores were done, I was able to burn off a tank of gas on a local ride of about 150 miles. This morning we have returned to rain and cold.
The winter storage riding void is inevitable.

Break out the snow machines! At least you guys have that opportunity. I was on the CBR forum saying how I felt bad for those of you who have to hibernate the bikes and a fella responded with a pic of his snowmobile. I was kinda jealous. Those look like a blast.

Ah, well, Rocky, and others confronting the winter lay up, I hope you find interesting projects to occupy you. You can always post on the forum to amuse yourselves and the rest of us.

I was at an open house at Cheryl's Triumph dealer on Saturday. Had a short conversation with a guy who rode in on a Tiger, was wearing a Klim mid-layer, and lives in Monroe, WI. I would not have sized him up as someone that would be surprised to learn that I ride year around. I mean it gets cold in southern Wisconsin, but not Nova-cold.
Planning on riding another 1000 miles before 11/1 to put me back on pace for a 13,000 mile year. Unless I was retired, I couldn't get close to 13k without winter riding.

I kept waiting for a chance to go for an afternoon ride. It is too cold to ride in the morning, as many had frost on the rooves. Any warm days had rain.
It has been a terrible year: long winter, cold and wet spring and fall. That is two in row. I usually ride 11,000 kilometers a year, but have only managed 4,000 kilometers on the last two.
Tomorrow I will prep my CB for the winter.

I did another ride today/150 km which is the third in a row within last 3 days, total about 550 km...it might be one of the last. Since mid July, made about 10,000 kms.
In winter, will do some research and see how real 2020 Europe trip is....???
2020 NFld, 10 day/6000 km trip for sure, may drop into Rocky's garage while driving by to admire his entire fleet of: '67 BSA 441 VR, '70 Triumph Tiger 100, '02 Honda CB900F, '06 Triumph T100 Bonneville, '14 Honda CB1100A 
Rocky, spring is coming....after winter, so don't get snowed in and have shovel and generator ready

Nortoon: Hate to say it, but you have to move to Toronto.
I suspect I will be raking leaves for the next four weeks. At least a couple more lawn mowings for sure.

I am a native of and live in SoCal, where I ride down to the beach most of the time, or to the local hills/mountains (if they're not on fire). I knew a guy in the army who was from Wisconsin who told me how he burned up his BSA while it was in his basement. He was filling it with gas, for some reason, and overfilled it, splashed gas all over it. Set the metal can down on the concrete floor, and a spark caught the gas on fire, burned the bike to a pile of twisted metal and melted rubber.
