 1309 Puig TOP windscreen
#1

Got this windscreen from Monster (http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/1309/Wind...1309.html) and have been test riding it the last couple days. Took it to Wickenburg yesterday and I'm just not all that pleased with it. I'm comparing it to a Givi A770 I have on the Giso and it's coming up short.

Seems to have two problems; a fair amount of turbulence coming boiling in on my upper chest and with no apparent crosswind I get buffeted from side to side on my upper body and helmet area. This was worse on Saturday, much less on Monday but still there.

Now it could be because I'm too tall (I'm mostly legs though). I can adjust the angle just a wee bit so I can play with that too.

Test speeds were mostly between 65 and 75mph. Best results were below 65.
Now a logical response would be to get an A770 and put her on the Honda. Only two things wrong with that idea; 1) while it looks like it was meant for the Griso it looks dumb on the CB (I tried! Smile ). 2) The A770 is no longer made. I had a dickens of a time finding the one for my Griso.

Rboe -

Can you post a picture of the Puig TOP?

I retired my Puig Plus in favor of a road comet, partly for looks but partly for wind noise. The road comet doesn't offer as much protetion, but it's a lot quieter having my helmet in clean air.

The link has a shot and the only pics I have at home are at night and don't show it very well. If I get home before dark I'll see what I can do. Looks wise it's abit different but not bad. Bigger than the dart, clean install, but the shape is complex making me think that may be the cause of the turbulence.
Maybe Flynride and I can meetup and swap bikes for a comparison. Smile

It may be more than the shape of the screen itself that's the cause of the turbulence. The mirrors, for instance, can interact with the airflow off the screen and create buffeting. Consider trying a test run with the mirrors off. If it helps, you could then try smaller mirrors, or a set of the mirror relocaters.

You might want to try adjusting it by placing rubber washers on the top or bottom mounting points to change the airflow. It might help.

If all else fails, the Dart Flyscreen sure works great (for me).

In my humble opinion, if you wear a full helmet, there is no windscreen made that you will be completely happy with. I have been through two so far and I am done with them for good. They just completely spoil the ambiance of riding the bike as far as head buffeting and wind noise are concerned.Sad

I rode a Moto Guzzi Quota for several years and the aerodynamics on that unit were really bad. That bike is my base line for worst turbulence and it was fairly well tamed with a laminar lip.

The Givi A770 could use a laminar lip on some days too but mostly it works pretty good with the helmet in clear air.

This Puig may be worse that no fairing at all (with only two mounting screws at some point I'm going naked again to see what that is like). Before I do that there are some tweaks to try.

Do you wear a full face helmet and do you feel the wind pressure pushing your head back at highway speeds with the Dart?

Yes, a Nolan modular to be specifc.

No, I don't find the wind pressure to be an issue. There's an airflow over and around the helmet, but it's much less than what I was dealing with without the Dart. And it's "clean" air; absolutely no buffeting at all.

However, I will admit that after a couple of hours I do enjoy leaning down a tad to get completely in the bubble, but that's as much to change the pressure points on my butt as anything else.

I need to try her naked again. Riding to Tempe and back last night; simply not all that pleasant. Too much turbulence.

I just tried her naked up to 80 and thoroughly enjoyed. Yes, I felt the push with the wind against the upper chest but bearable. However, I doubt for long commutes that'd be sustainable.

Spaceman, thanks for your response.
