HID kit?
#1

Using the search function i only found this thread....

http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....ht=hid+kit

Does anyone else run a HID kit? I assume we have an H4 style bulb? Any advice pro or con for a kit?

Silascopathetic, how do you like the kit you have? Any issues you ran into?

I think RandyB was using some high intensity bulbs but they kept blowing and he went back to stock..I believe. Let me see if I can find a thread.

Found this

http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=296

He also has a thread in the how to section on changing them
Looks like Houtman and Mike Bee went with brighter bulbs as well

Just a suggestion but I believe I would look for some LED auxiliary lights. I dont know where you would mount them but just something to think about.

I am really surprised no one here has done this yet. It kinda led me to believe the stock lighting was pretty dang good.

The first one I installed blew out quickly, but it was a transplant from the nighthawk. The second bulb in the pack is still going strong as of now (cross my fingers) and I think it's a good investment for the increase in light vs cost.
Now the HID conversion bulbs I'm no fan of because even though they may fit the housing, they do not project the beam of light properly because the lit portion of the bulb in not in the correct place within the light housing. So what you end up with is what APPEARS to be a brighter light because it is defused right in front of you and the light is scattered all over the place instead of a focused beam of light that actually light up the road in front of you.
If you can find a complete housing that is specifically designed for an HID bulb than I would go with that all day long because then you'll be sure that the beam will be correct and not blinding everyone that comes at you and will properly light up the road in front of you.

My $.02

Thanks for the tips. The main reason behind this for me is not to gain more light but to use less power to make the same light. I thought the HID kits in 35w would be a good way to accomplich this.

Gotcha. You may want to look for and LED headlight instead. Something like this maybe?

I am in no way endorsing this product but its just an idea. I know LED is the way of the future in lighting and not HID for reasons RandyB stated above plus LED is plug and play with no ballast. HD has had their own for a while and it gets rave reviews but very pricey. I dont know the size of the CB head light but you can just google motorcycle led headlight and get a ton of results.

Just to add you should save a bunch of energy and have superior lighting to boot with LED.

Here is a quick video that HD put out and the difference is dramatic.

Has anyone tried to fit the Kurakyn Phase 7 headlight? They have a metric version; however in chat with them they said wouldn't fit Cb1100. Is there another alternative? Thanks

Try contacting JW Speaker Co. These are the people who make the Harley Davidson LED lights and imo probably the best.

http://www.jwspeaker.com/

Out of curiousity, how big is the CB headlight? I know JW Speaker has several different sizes available. I have not checked but it is my understanding that these guys are very expensive so I am just giving you a heads up on that.

Did Kurakyn say why the lamp wouldnt work?
the part number for the headlight reflector is 33120-MAZ-003 HEADLIGHT UNIT. This also matches the headlight reflector unit on the 2002-2007 CB900F

Nope. Just stated wouldn't fit. Causes me some pause as I can interchange the light from my CB, T100, and TU250 with no issue. I've been away so late to answer. I'll call Whitney to get their input.
