Looking to buy a 2017 CB1100 EX... what should I pay?
#1
Hey everyone new guy here. I've been seriously considering picking up a 2017 Honda CB1100 EX (new). I've sourced all the dealers near me and 3 of them have one. One of the dealers actually has 2 of them. Wanted to ask what you guys thought is a fair price? Currently we are looking at 11-12k out the door.... feels high. I bought a GSX-R750 back in 2005 and it was 8900 out the door. Please let me know your thoughts... 1 VA dealer, 1 MD Dealer, 1 PA Dealer.

Hello Howdy and welcome to the forum. Not sure what you should pay for a 17, but hard to compare prices from a purchase 14 years ago on a smaller bike

I can't speak for your area of course, but i've seen several dealers in the southeast that still have new/overstock 2017 CB1100's with a sticker at 9k to 9500. I'm sure if you're offering cash they'd be willing to stick to that figure. if you're at a dealer that gives more incentives for financing, then just let them finance it and pay it off in month 1. otherwise, if you're genuinely going to finance it, don't wory too much about it. the payment will be reasonable at those prices.

If by Out the Door you're including tax, title, and registration, it'll make comparisons more difficult. I'd only focus on the selling price, plus any fees for freight, setup, and/or documentation. Those are the only things you can negotiate and control.

"out the door"...a simple sounding phrase, but often times not.

One state's registration isn't quite the same as another: my state doesn't have sales tax, is extra warranty included or not; are there set up and/or destination charges, perhaps there are some other charges.

I bought my '17 in Februrary of '18; selling price was $9,999; paid $500 for extended warranty and $400 for title and registration for 4 years. So for me, my "out the door" price was 10,900. Oregon doesn't have sales tax. Honda also had 0% financing for 1 year at the time, so I financed 7k of the 10.9 and paid it off in less than a year.

FWIW, I paid $10.3K sticker / $11.5K cash out the door for a new 2017 in Virginia just a few months ago. Might have found a better deal at a different dealership but that's as low as the one nearest me would go.

PS worth every cent - terrific bike

As others have suggested, looking at the "out the door" price is totally meaningless since every State and even some cities have different taxes and registration fees, which are non-negotiable. Look at sales price, any "doc" fee, any "prep" or "set-up" fees, and sometimes an anxious dealer might negotiate freight, but understand that freight is not a b.s. up-charge like a doc fee or a "prep" fee. Your dealer actually pays the freight charge so usually, we need to pay it. Just make sure it is the actual freight charge, not some inflated number. If your dealer insists the doc fee is non-negotiable (which is total crap), tell the dealer fine, you are happy to pay it. But then tell the dealer to reduce the price of the bike below the rock bottom number you already negotiated and to reduce it by the amount of the doc fee, and if they don't, tell them thank you and walk out. Leave them your number to call you when they come to their senses. Any new 2017 has been sitting in their inventory for years and they want to sell it. When I bought my 2017 in the summer of 2018, I paid $10,000, plus freight, plus tax and registration and title fees.
