Will a modified exhaust void factory warranty?

Will a modified exhaust void Honda's factory warranty?

I've saved my original exhaust just in case I need service so I can re-install it before taking it in....but I'm wondering is it necessary?

While were on the subject, what other modification will void the factory warranty?

If it's an issue with say brakes..no. If it's an issue with the engine..I would stick the stock exhaust back on. if it's something that COULD have been because of an altered exhaust (even though it might not have been) they would most likely blame the modification.

Didn't someone here recently buy a CB from a dealer with a Yoshimura exhaust that the dealer put on? If the engine management compensates for most aftermarket exhausts, which it supposedly does, I don't see an issue.

Dealer would be one thing, the manufacturer maybe something entirely different. If a bike came in with an altered exhaust and the engine sucked a valve, what do you think Honda would say?

I have never heard of Honda voiding anyone's warranty. I spoke
directly to my dealer some time ago about this no one has ever been denied and people do stupid things to their bikes other then modifications such as pure neglect
not doing proper oil changes and leaving the machines out in the weather to rot.

Yup. That was me. Dealer put on the Yoshimura RS-3. If something goes wrong with the engine, someone other than me will be eating the cost. The dealer or Honda. That's a fight I hope to never see.

Merely leaving a vehicle outside is not mistreatment. We don't worry about our cars when it rains do we? Big Grin

The manufacturer needs to prove that your modification (or neglect of required, documented maintenance) was the direct cause for the failure and not a defect in design or manufacture to deny a warranty claim in the U.S.

A manufacturer or dealer is not going hire outside consultants to do an in depth study to determine the cause and provide you with a written report. The real issue is that if you disagree with the outcome, it is upon you to take the dealer to court with your own $proof$ to force a claim to be covered. MANY of the automakers deny warranty claims with no "proof."
