Speaking of CB's in Arizona, I am planning a vacation trip in April. I will be travelling out of Texas into New Mexico,(Roswell area), visiting the Trinity site(open saturday April 5th), then heading up to Taos. From Taos, I plan to go back to I-40 and head over to Flagstaff AZ, then up to the Grand Canyon. From the Grand Canyon I'll be headed down I-17 into the valley to Phoenix, after a couple of carne asada burritos I'm headed down to Tucson and on to Tombstone. Then back to Texas.

There will be plenty of time between now and then, but it would be really cool to meet you guys.

Cheers

Oh you are a ways away. I prefer the 101 on a bike. Otherwise I tend to avoid our freeways like the plague - in the metro area.

The AZ Rat Pack guys (see FaceBook) does some rides out east around Superior and what not. I've ridden with them a few times and they typically meet at the Circle K south of the 60 on Stapley.

I did some freeway today @ 75 mph and after 60 mph I get the wind on the back effect. But I can blast away from a stop now without sliding off the back, I hate when that happens!

Anyone wanting to try this, remember there are many shapes and part numbers and it is a crap shoot as to how it fits. I was lucky it turned out well.

Those Fork seal protectors / gaiters look good! Are they Wunderlich or some other brand please?

Thanks Kiwikevin

It is a 8803, action said it was for a 80 something Kaw, I did some research and found out there are many part numbers for this thing but could not see any noticeable difference in them, it was a best offer, I got it for $160 shipped, most others are $220 so I thought I'd gamble.

It is a tight fit like Flynrider posted in another thread but I got it lined up with tight clearance but nothing touches. Did a 40 mile ride yesterday and was very satisfied, I had my heated jacket liner with glove liners plugged in. Was 50 deg, by the time I got to my destination I was hot, the glove liners alone never worked that well in the wind but with the P3 hand guards the liners did their job.

Overall it was near Goldwing fairing as far as wind protection goes. This one is 21" tall from headlight, I'm 5'11" with 30" inseem, wide shoulders and extra thick a$$ so I sit fairly high and just looking over the top. Very little wind noise, no buffeting. The tank bag is a magnetic Givi, perfect secure fit.
Do you secure the tank bag with a strap (to the handle bar)?

The short fork gaiters came with the bike, I thought all CB's have them? I bought the bike used.

I don't strap the tank bag, I have used that bag on several bikes, always stays put.

Mine didnt come with those seal protectors, but my Triumph did (I took them off). I use magnetic tank bags as well. Never had a problem with them blowing off. Sometimes they are so strong I have trouble TAKING. Them off.

I will check on those fork thingies when the sun comes up, I'll see if there are any identifying marks. Another member PM'ed me about them. I believe they have some function so I'll leave them be.

Their function to to protect the fork tubes from getting nicked by rocks, gouging them, which can cause the fork seals to leak.

The only problem I've had with leaky fork seals was on my old KZ550 I rode in Minnesota. Dried bug guts tearing the seal. Different regions will probably have different fork seal killers but Arizona I have not had a problem. My old Quota needed a new seal but I got her used so I can't what happened (and she had fork gaiters).

There are no identifiable marking on the protectors, the previous owner cut them and used silicone to secure them, I will leave them on for fear of what I might find under them. The P/O, although he did the maintenance fine, was not very good at home brew mods to say the least. He also glued plastic bumpers on engine covers on both sides of the bike, I got them removed but some of the glue is not coming off, one day I will remove both covers and refinish them or replace them, both new covers are $175, If he may be reading this I'd like to say "DROP THE WRENCH AND STEP AWAY FROM THE BIKE!"

Rboe, I been living here 14 years and have replaced a lot of fork seals, don't know if bugs are doing it or just wear, I'm always cleaning bugs of the front ends of my bikes, sure glad scorpions and tarantulas don't fly.
