Shad 37 Top Case/ Honda Rear Carrier

I installed this top case a few weeks ago and wanted to post some pictures for everyone. The Shad 37 will hold one helmet and a few other items. I can get my helmet and light weight coat in it, but my tourmaster coat with armor will not fit.


Here is the base mounted to the Honda rear carrier.


The mounting holes on the rear carrier did not match the holes in the bracket so I squared it up where I wanted it and drilled though the plastic bracket to match the holes in the carrier. the mounting hardware supplied is not stainless so I'm going the replace the bolts later, make sure you use nylon lock nuts.



The view from the rear. The case locks into the bracket pretty good and tight. The case has a open area right above the opening lever that you can carry the top case around by. I was originally going to go with a black milk create, but just could not do it and spent some money on the case. When it is locked, it is locked to the bracket and the lid is locked. Keep it locked even if its empty or you might come out and find it gone.

I like the CB1100 without anything on it, but need to be able to lock some things up and the Shad Top Case works great for me.

I have a top case on my ST and on my Majesty. They rarely come off..just so dang handy.

I have the Shad 29 and its working great. I picked up mounting points on the small bars that go across the bike, it looks like you got the larger bars that form the frame by drilling. I'll have another look at my installation.

Replacing the hardware with stainless is a great idea; the heads of the original bolts are starting to show a bit of rust.

Looks nice. The thought of being able to take the case off is a good one, but so far, I haven't taken mine off, and don't see myself doing that until I sell the bike (if that day ever comes).

To be honest, have only taken it off once. I felt it would be nice for over night trips, I could take it in the hotel room like a luggage.

That's one nice thing about the Givi universal plate, you don't need to drill any holes, no matter what. They engineered a very nice, universal solution that doesn't involve messing with the stock carrier in any way and is still rock solid.

The shad base plate has multiple holes with square washers for the bolts, but none of the base plate holes lined up with the rear carrier tab holes. just drilled holes in the plastic shad base plate. I didn't look at the Givi top cases, sound like they fit.

The holes in the Givi plate didn't match toward the front, either, but the metal lever, for lack of a better term, that you pass the bolt through can be "attached" to any round tube. So you just find where you want that to run up against the tube of the carrier, and you're done -- nothing to drill. It's hard to explain without pictures.
