Shifter Peg Cover
#1

I made my own shifter peg cover yesterday to prevent "scuffing up" my new boots. Cut a strip of rubberized shelf liner (like used in tool shelving or kitchen drawers) and double-face taped it around the rubber shifter cover. My thought is the shelf liner will "give" a little vs. the hard rubber peg cover.

All of my motorcycle-specific boots come with extra patches of leather specifically to endure the shift lever abuse. :-)

I stopped in the local shop for a minute today ( actually to eat some spicy Popeyes chicken wings in their break room lol, but there on the break room table was a packaged foam shift lever cover so your shift lever wouldnt mar your white gym shoes ( at least that was the pic on the packaging). Whoda thought?

I had seen an ad for a sleeve which fits over the rubber-coated peg and a portion of the lever for about $15. That's when I started looking in my scrap bag and found the roll of black shelf liner, grabbed the scissors, cut off a strip and using double-faced carpet tape, wrapped it around the rubber peg. Not a "professional looking job" by any stretch, but I didn't charge myself anything for the parts and labor, nor shop supplies. Banana

These covers can be handy.

When I commute to work in the summer, I use the "shifter skinz" version that goes on your boots to cover my dress shoes -- a co worker/fellow rider bought it for me after taking pitty on me for putting painters tape on the tips of my shoes for so long.

I made a sleeve for my boot out of an old "tennis elbow wrap" which is soft on one side and flexible elastic on the other. It worked okay but I discovered it was too loose when it fell off. I retrieved it after turning around and waiting for traffic to clear on a very busy street. That's when I decided to try the peg wrap. So far, so good.
