White Dog, they only see sun for 4 days or approx 40 hours a year lol. Usually 2 week long trips (last year one to the rally in N.C, and the other on the Men's Fall Trip in Central KY), but they ride day 1, get placed in the hotel, then I ride around all week without them leaving them in the hotel, then put back on for the ride home. Then back in the mc gear closet

Now my tank bag and tail pack show quite a bit of fade, they are on the bikes every day. I have some bags and stuff that were black at one time, but are various shades of gray from dark gray to light gray now.

Well, at least my tail bag and saddlebags match, although I am not fond of the fading color now. I may pursue the shoe dye route.

qg... I have used tanks bags since the early 70s on nearly every bike nearly every day. In the beginning they were strap on Eclipses or Bagmans. Since they have developed and improved the magnetic bags I no longer use the strap on bags ( my brother still does though). I don't really worry about about scratches and have scratched a couple tanks over the years.I do have some clear 3m on the top of the CBs tank but it was paranoia when I first got the bike and I haven't removed it, even though the rock chips in the front of the tank have made protecting the tank from damage a moot point. The thing is I run lots of miles on my bikes and in the end my bikes have little value due to mileage regardless of conditon, so I don't really worry about the physical appearance of my bikes, the minutia of details if you will. There is dirt on the front of the engine and on the pipes, the rims are dirty, there are bugs all over the front of the bike, the rock chips, there's probably rust up under the rear fender in spots. My bikes will never be mistaken as garage queens.

Whew long story lol. In the end if you are one of those who worry about things like hair line scratches or rock chips or bug guts ypu have to find a way to protect the bike or just not ride it. Honestly most people choose the latter. They would rather have a pristine motorcycle than the sheer joy of just riding the wheels off the thing. It's extremely hard to do both. Can be done but takes more effort than most people are willing to put forth.

Everyone has a different take on their motorcycle. I try very hard to take care of my property, both cosmetically and mechanically. But I see no reason to intentionally subject my CB1100's tank finish to scratches or abrasion if there's some sensible and reasonable way to prevent it.

It is not a "garage queen". Although still "new", it is and will continue to be, ridden...

Well I did inquire of Tour Master if their one year warranty covered fading of their tail bag and saddle bags. Their answer was "NO". So, I have asked them "WHAT DOES YOUR WARRANTY COVER?"

Prior to that email I received, Motorcycle Superstore said if I sent the tail bag to them, they would submit it as a warranty claim, but made no promises. Heck--I can buy right much shoe dye for what it would cost me to ship the bag back to them.

I asked my Honda dealer about the saddle bags and was told they would contact the Tour Master Sales Rep and ask. I'm not holding my breath. The Honda shop might do me a goodwill favor since I've done so much business with them over the years, but maybe not.

Tourmasters' simple "No" as to color fade warranty may be understandable insofar as sunlight is a cruel "mistress". However, if it were my company, I would consider some form of customer recompense by perhaps offering a discount in some amount on future purchases...

Tour Master is a big, big company. I am but a minnow in the Atlantic ocean. I don't look for any discount forthcoming. Big corps don't seem to want to help the small guys anymore.

For $10.65 for a bottle of suede shoe dye I applied it on my tail bag and saddle bags. You betcha I blacked out the name on the sides.

Has anyone tried the Tourmaster bags with the Rakuten rack? This seems to be the best of both worlds if it will work. I am worried that the bags will sit too high and interfere with the hand holds of the rack. Maybe the bags can be dropped down below the hand holds? I want the Rakuten so the girlfriend has something to hold onto, but I also want some cheaper bags that we can do a couple of overnighters a year with. Any help is appreciated.

The Tourmaster Select bags (and maybe other models) are attached to each other via large velcro straps which lay over the passenger seat, so you can position them wherever you like. You might be able to mount these straps underneath the seat. My shocks hold my bags out of the rear wheel. Mine are mounted such that the tops of the bags fit underneath the rear turn signals. Even that low, They cover the hand holds. I've never had a passenger on the back of my cycle (dang it). As a suggestion, maybe a tank bag or backpacks would be the better solution if you are only planning to use them a couple times a year.
