Ryujin Exhaust System Review
#1

undefined
Well... just spent half an hour writing a detailed review and when I tried to attach pictures to the post (which I guess I can't on this forum) everything got deleted! That's what I get for being a newby I guess.

So... I've been lurking on the forum since I got my 2014 black standard CB1100 reading stuff but not posting. Figured I'd post now that I have something to contribute.

I decided a while back that my first modification would be the exhaust. After careful deliberation I decide on the Ryujin exhaust system as sold by Samurider for a few reasons:

1) Retains use of center stand
2) Removable Baffle
3) Beautiful hand bent system in black to match the black bike
4) Does not requite removal to access the oil filter

So I ponied up $1200 or so waited a month to get it from Japan. It arrive a few weeks ago and has now been removed from the bike and put on Ebay at half what I paid for it.

Why? Because it scrapes on the underside of the header collector (by front of the frame) under very hard right hand turns. Disclaimer: I'm 250lbs and like to push lean angles to the limits so perhaps other people might have better luck. I tried adjusting the suspension settings to no avail. Although I love everything else about this exhaust system I just can't stand to compromise handling on a bike. I had seen some posts about this being a problem on the very similar Yoshimura vintage full exhaust system as well and I guess I was hoping the Ryujin would be different.

Otherwise the exhaust was very nice. Looked great! (Wish I could post a pic) Also the sound with the baffle installed was reasonable (94db supposedly). With the baffle removed (essentially no muffler) power levers were GREAT but sound level quite loud as you'd imagine. If I didn't feel bad being a public nuisance I'd probably run with no baffle as it sounded surprisingly awesome and the power levels were better.

So, the system is removed and carefully bubble wrapped and packed up (saved all the original packing fortunately). Would have listed this for sale on the forum but since I'm a lurker I don't have enough posts to qualify to sell. We'll see if I get any bids on Ebay.

The bike now has the stock system back on it and I'm awaiting an Arrow slip on. It seems the factory header/cat is carefully packaged to allow just enough clearance for extreme lean angles and I double I'll find this with any other aftermarket offering. Best to just keep the stock headers afterall...

Safe and Fun riding to all! Hope this post was helpful.

Perhaps consider the Arrow headers as well. Some members have that and have not reported any scraping issues. I even asked one of the members here and he confirmed the clearance of the Arrow headers was similar to stock if not better.

I have the race headers with the arrow slip on and I couldn't be happier. I believe they even sit tighter to the bike creating more clearance. I don't ride extremely aggressive, but I can't imagine ever having a clearance issue.

Sorry to hear about your luck with the Ryujin setup. Let us know how you like the arrow. I think it sounds great with the baffle out.

Installed my arrow muffler and really like it (I removed the baffle). Nice performance and perfect sound level.

If anyone wants the Ryujin Exhaust let me know. It's on Ebay right now at $600 (half price!) with no reserve. Just search "Ryujin Exhaust" on Ebay. Heck of a deal if you want a good looking full system and are not a fatty like me who scrapes in hard turns.

Where exactly is it scraping?

The underside of the header collector on VERY hard right hand turns.

There is a picture in my ebay listing:

[url=http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ryujin-Hand-Bent-Full-Exhaust-for-Honda-CB1100-standard-2013-2014-/281923834428?hash=item41a3f8523c:g:iS0AAOSwGotWrl30&vxp=mtr]http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ryujin-Hand-Bent...30&vxp=mtr

I'll see if I can attach a pic to this post
Hurray! I can post picture from this computer. Pic of full exhaust attached. Looks great.
CB4ME - in your picture of the other version of the Ryujin Exhaust it appears that the collected in rotated inwards a bit more like the stock header. My Ryujin exhaust it just stacked straight up so I think that may be why it rubs. Disappointing. Too bad I'm sure I can't return it.

First, let me say how sorry I am that this did not work out for you. I can see how that black pipe really looks good on the Blackish 14. Our bikes do handle well and that lean must have been very large but I can see how it might be because after I rode my 14 on the first 800 or so miles she got to where we work as one on these curves without even thinking about them which means this bike can handle when you need her to.

I do hope you find the exhaust you like. After seeing yours and a few others on this forum I am convinced black pipes are a great choice and am sorta kinda looking at spending some money replacing a perfectly good stock exhaust for a black set of pipes, either duals or that new four that's available on Samurider, if it fits a 14 STANDARD of Excellence model. I also have my eye on that titanium header single exhaust because it is so light and looks different and good and allows me to keep my center stand which somehow seems to me to be important, I do use it but could get by without it I suppose.

Well, good luck with your search for a new exhaust should you choose to get another. Having said that, the stock seems to work just fine and maybe I should spend the money on a new trailer for her?

Well wishes,
Art
Man. Black pipes look good on your bike. Maybe black pipes and black fenders as I've seen around this forum on a most excellent standard recently. Righteous and bad at the same time.

Have you considered upgrading the suspension? Stiffer springs would keep your bike higher in the corner, may be enough to keep the exhaust off the ground.

Yeah. You also likely know already to give her a little gas coming into the curve to bring her up on her suspension before going into the lean.
