Single Sided to Two Sided Exhaust on Standard Model
#1

Greetings... So I'm considering installing a set of Moriwaki pipes. My bike is the standard model with the exhaust on the one side. The new pipes will come out both sides. Now I know that the center stand is history, and it comes with a "Moriwaki original side stand," so that shouldn't be an issue. It comes as a Full Exhaust System. Am i crazy to think that this swap will be at least semi-easy? What am i missing here? Any hidden obstacles that I'm not thinking of?

Any lessons learned or feedback would be appreciated...

I have converted the single exhaust on my 2013 CB1100 to a 4 into 2 system, using used header pipes from a forum member's 2014 DLX model and aftermarket Over Racing slip-on mufflers.

The removal of the old system was simple. Just make sure that the exhaust header gaskets come out of the exhaust ports. I would also purchase and install fresh exhaust gaskets if they don't come with your new system. You can also use a small amount of high temperature gasket sealer to hold the new gaskets in place up in the exhaust ports while you are positioning and bolting in the new headers.

You will also notice that the right muffler attaches to a mounting point on the rear of the right foot peg bracket. Since I was using a system meant for the 2014 models, I had to purchase the left foot peg bracket from Honda that is used on the DLX models. It had the same muffler mounting point that the right one has. If you are purchasing a 4 into 2 system that is being sold for the 2013 model, it may have a different left muffler mounting bracket than using the DLX foot peg bracket.

One other challenge I ran into was that the 2014 DLX left side exhaust header uses a frame mounting point that is not on the 2013 or 2014 Standard models. I used a long bolt with a large rubber grommet with washers on each side that rests on the frame just in front of the shift lever shaft. It really worked well, once the whole system was in place.

Other than these issues, the install was pretty easy. Here is the link to my post on the swap I did. Good luck and let us know how the install goes for you. Pictures are also nice!

Thanks folks... I appreciate the feedback!

Exhaust arrived today from Samurider (surprisingly fast BTW) BUT unfortunately they forgot to send me the new kickstand, so the install is on hold...

I will be sure to post pics when I finally get everything and this bad boy installed!

A friend of mine installed the titanium moriwaki on his 2014 standard so his install was very similar to yours. He had some issues getting the kickstand to fit correctly and needed assistance from a grinder to make it fit. Hopefully yours goes right on.

By the way, the moriwaki exhaust sounds amazing on the CB. Enjoy!

After about 3.5 hrs crawling around in the garage and the new pipes are installed...

I had some issues trying to get the O2 Sensor out of the old pipes... nothing a pencil grinder and a large hammer couldn't cure to get a decent bite on the nut with a wrench. Other than that, and some vague directions, it went pretty well. (I will say that I'm not sure how they translated 5 pages of directions in Japanese into 1 page in English... but I made it through with only minor delays to decipher, haha).

Anyways, you weren't lying Krupator... this thing sounds absolutely awesome and looks pretty bad a** too IMO. When I bought the bike, the exhaust was my biggest pet peeve. It was SOOO quiet. Not that I am interested in some obnoxiously loud ride, but my '81 CB750C sounds the way a bike of this stature should... now I can honestly say both make me smile ear to ear when I start them up or cruise down the road.

Next up is the Black Whitehouse Fugu Cafe Fender Set that should be arriving from Samurider any day, the black engine guards and the black grab bar that I hope to get on order in the next couple weeks.

Here are the before and after pics of the exhaust... and thanks for the tips!
