2016 Canadian "Special Edition" black with checker flag?
#1
Does anyone know what the story is on the 2016 Canadian CB1100 models that are all black with a white checkered flag on the fuel tank?

Finding a CB1100 in Canada isn't easy, but there are a few of these models for sale and I can't quite figure out what they are.

They seem to have ABS, but then also appear to be the "standard" trim level with the smaller flat sided fuel tank and a 4 into 1 exhaust instead of the 4 into 2.

I prefer the flat sided fuel tank and mag wheels vs the spokes (don't like dealing with inner tubes) so the 2016 model is appealing to me as I believe it's the final year with the flat sided tank and mag wheels.

I currently have a Moto Guzzu V7 but would like something with a better dealer network and parts availability.

What are your thoughts on parts for these bikes in the future? Do they share enough parts with other Honda bikes that it won't be an issue?

Thanks
James

Welcome James. Honda may have sold the black and white checked model in Japan as well as Canada, I can’t recall. I’m not aware it went anywhere else in the world. It’s the same as the 2014 standard model sold in the US and Canada except it has ABS. I’ve no idea why the US bikes didn’t.

In Canada, only 2016 was checkered flag and black, with ABS, 4 in 1 exhaust , mags… any other set up might be modified or from US.
Kijiji and auto trader have a few for sale, and one is or from a member either in BC or Alberta??? if I remember correctly

Thanks for the reply. There is also a very low mileage one in Saskatchewan with 1,800km on it for $12k CAD.

What's the right price for one of these with less than 2,000 km in mint shape? $12k seems high based on what they were brand new, but examples with a lot more mileage are also asking the same price.
Thanks for the replies so far. So, if someone wanted a flat sided tank and mag wheels, a 2016 "standard" might be a good way to go as it gets you the final year? Were there every any models with the 4 into 2 exhaust that also had the flat sided tank and mag wheels or did the 4 into 2 always come with the spoked wheels and curved tank?

Any thoughts on parts availability for these bikes? Has anyone had issues finding parts from Honda dealers? With my Moto Guzzi, local dealer won't even stock all models of air/oil filters and it's months to get them ordered in.

Welcome James and best of luck with your search. One thing to remember is that you'll likely not need an air cleaner for a very, very long time. Oil filters should not be hard to find. That said, 18inch tires (tyres in Canada) are getting rare.
That said, you will want to get RLETS at your first convenience and be ready to slip them on the bike as soon as you find the one you like. That way the first pictures will identify you as one of the chosen.
It is a great bike, no matter the color or style.

Tires are a big challenge on my V7 Guzzi as well. The Continental Road Attack 3's were great, but have been discontinued and the replacement Road Attack 4's are not made in sizes to fit. It's now to a point where bias ply tires are looking like attractive options as they are still made in the V7 size. Michelin Road Classic's are one tire I've heard good things about and I'm planning to order a set this week to replace my Pirelli Sport Demon's.

Good to know on parts being available.

Thanks
James

Welcome to the Forum James.

You will also discover that the CB1100 has superior power characteristics over the V7. That is not to say the V7 doesn't have character.

In Canada we had:
2013 white
2014 blue
2016 black/ checkered flag, and all the above with ABS, "flat sided" gas tank and 4 to 1 exhaust, always mags with tubeless tires.

The 2017EX/red Canadian model had different gas tank, 4 to 2 exhaust, ABS, spoked wheels with NON-tubeless tires

No problem with the parts so far as the CB is a bullet proof bike, however had to wait 2-3 months for my EX horns

The first iteration of the curved, seamless tank was 2017. Prior to that all tanks were flat sided and seamed. The USA received the DLX in 2014 which had a larger capacity flat-sided tank, a 4 into 2 exhaust system and mag wheels. Honda did not send that model to Canada so, if you want one, you'll likely have to import one from the USA or persuade peterbaron to part with his.

Otherwise, you'll have to buy a 2017 model with spoked wheels and the seamless tank. Should you decide to go that route, you can get a kit to convert the rims t take tubeless tyres.
