I just keep mine stock.

Not even a single personal mod?

Mine is very, very close to stock. Only three:
1. LED tail/brake bulb (done to last 8 bikes)
2. Sliced snorkel (removed it on the Triumph)
Made a significant difference on the Triumph, but very little difference on the CB...just seems to be a slight improvement at altitude...but I like the sound.
3. Engine guards

All could be undone

with most of my bikes i bought all the high end mods which did very little for resale but it was fun.
once you decide for a fact you will be keeping this bike for many years it may be worth it , if not it will not be.
I justified the $9600 for my bike by saying there was nothing else i wanted to do to it other than a Denali sound blaster horn and of course i sprung for the RLETS

Being a non-comformist, mine remains RLET free...unless I move back to SoCal (not a chance) and can again split traffic!

Hmmm, I'd say that your being a non-conformist amongst the CB1100 Forum crowd simply makes you a bigger conformist amongst the minions within the larger motorcycling community. Poor unsaved souls.

As to the OP's question, I think that each person has to answer that one for themselves. When it comes to modifications, I've actually made purchases that I knew that I could not justify (my Staintune exhaust for example) and so I did not try to justify the purchase. For that matter, the same could be said for my CB1100 itself. I already had a motorcycle that worked and made me happy, but when the CB came out here in the States, I was amongst those at the very front of the line to purchase one.

From a financial standpoint, neither the Staintune nor the bike itself made sense. Even though I have used my CB1100 for commuting duties over the years, what I've really paid for is the experience this bike (and the very few accessories that I've purchased) has provided me with. Not everything in life fits conveniently into a formula in a financial spreadsheet. Those things also tend to be the stuff that I "value" the most even though the cost cannot easily be justified. More than just a bit ironic I suppose, but then so is life itself.

I've had my '14 about a month now. Close to 1000 miles and I've done my first oil change (I wish my cars were that easy). And I've done all the cheap mods I can think of. Grip Puppies, rlets and of course ZRXman's beautiful knurled oil cap. Next I'd like to go for a higher seat and an OEM rack (and hopefully getting the two to work together). But here's my problem. Shelling out all that money for the bike just a month ago how do I justify these more expensive mods? I'm having trouble justifying it to myself much less my lady. But man, once you start it's not easy to stop....

I guess I may be at the other end of the spectrum .. just bought the same model 5 days ago ..about to hit 600 miles so I will be dumping oil this weekend . The bike I traded was a Suzuki tu 250 x and I had this very affliction. Bar ends , dart flyscreen , cafe seat , hot rod shorty exhaust and front and rear sprockets all added along with fork gaiters. Absolutely loved all the upgrades and what it did for the bike .

But for some reason the CB just hits me as perfect just as it is both from a styling and performance standpoint . Will be taking it on a short road trip in a couple weeks with a lot of highway miles so I am interested in how the ride will be without a windscreen .. really don’t even want to put anything on the bike .

That being said , I certainly understand wanting to take steps to make a bike even more of your own ... especially a bike as beloved as this one is .

Absolutely loved all the upgrades and what it did for the bike .

Will be taking it on a short road trip in a couple weeks with a lot of highway miles so I am interested in how the ride will be without a windscreen .. really don’t even want to put anything on the bike .

I just did 1220 miles in 3 days on the CB1100. First day, 432 miles..lots of interstate....3rd day return trip home...531 miles and LOTS of interstate. I have no windscreen either. With a full Face helmet on, honestly it was not tooo bad. I stuck to 65-70mph and rarely exceeded that unless i needed to pass on the Interstate. The worst issue was my A** was burning after 200 miles. the return trip really caught myself having to get off the bike more frequently.

Good to know .. so far I have not had any issue with the wind blast having it up over 70 albeit only short bursts . I will be interested to see how my hind end does on the longer ride .. 120 miles at one time is the most I have done at one sitting so far ( first day I had it ). So far the stock seat has been comfortable . Gonna get out there and log the miles and see what happens !

I don't find the stock seat all that uncomfortable. It's the space between the seat and the footpegs that gets to me. That's why I was thinking of a higher seat. Don't want to lower the pegs, seems like too much hassle vs reward.
