I know there are cheaper options out there but I love the look of the Japanese OEM topbox. My questions for those who have it are how is the fit and finish and how solid is it as a back rest?
I wasn’t a fan of putting any top box on my CB because I didn’t care for the look of it sticking off the back of the bike but when I started riding with the wife it was clear she felt more secure with some kind of back rest. At the time I couldn’t find a backrest ready made to fit the cb so I made my own bracket to mount something I found online. But it was very low and kept her butt from sliding more than anything. I ended up getting the oem box with the backrest and she feels very secure. No complaints and I think the style was more fitting of the bike than some other after market versions. It does require an adapter plate that attaches to the stock rear rack. It allows the trunk lock to also secure it to the bike for easy removal. I think it’s a good option and solves two problems if you want both storage and a backrest. I also got the single key lock with it and was able to configure it to lock with the motorcycle ignition key. It was very interesting accomplishment as the instructions were only in Japanese. But I figured it out from the diagrams.

Forgot to mention that it is plastic and therefore won’t take the abuse that a metal box will. On one side the pin holding the hinge in vibrates out on occasion and has to be pushed back in. There were flexible plastic lid stays to prevent the lid from opening too far that I ended up needing to replace. I used some small metal chain from a hardware store. Much sturdier and easy fix.
