CB1100EX- Spokes to '14 Alloy Wheels Conversion
#1

So I have a set of JB Magtan Wheels from my '14 that I'm thinking of putting on my new CB11EX but I'm a little lost, it doesn't look like anyone's done the conversion in this direction, most people want spokes! My understanding is that the axle is different and the '17 rotors don't fit on the '14 wheels, so I'd need new rotors and axles at the very least.

Do I need anything else? Is this going to be problematic since I have ABS on my '17 but didn't on the '14? I can probably DO it if I have a parts list considering it's not that hard to take a wheel on/off, I'm just lost and feel like the dealership would charge me a million dollars to do it.

Alternatively, anyone want some great condition gold JB Magtan wheels?

They're this version here: https://www.samurider.com/?p=26675/#itemImage

This info applies only to US models only.
All 2013, 2014, and the 2017 models use the same front axle.

Both 2013 rear axles are the same 25mm diameter. Both 2014 rear axles are the same 20mm diameter. The 2017 axle is also 20mm diameter, but a little longer.

Both 2013 models use the same discs as the 2014 standard, front and rear.
(Right now there are a pair of 2013 front discs on eBay for $275, and a rear for $68.)

The MagTan front wheel likely will bolt up just with the correct discs, but the right side MagTan disc carrier would possibly already have holes drilled for a speed sensor ring, or you could order it from them.

The rear MagTan brake carrier is already drilled for a speed sensor ring and you'll need to order one. It might not line up with the speed sensor pickup which bolts into the rear caliper bracket, but I think it probably will.

The best way to check is to put a 2014 standard next to your bike and make a few comparative measurements.

In 2017 I looked into the cost of going from spokes to alloy wheels on my 2017 but the cost would be very high due to the MANY different parts you need and it would not be worth it. The only reason I wanted to do it was to have an easier flat repair with a tubeless tire. I put RideOn in the tubes instead and hopefully this will help to prevent a blowout.

@Houtman, what parts did you see needed changing, if you can recall? As Pekingduck mentioned the axles are the same but I do see different parts for everything else- the speed sensors are a little more expensive than I thought they should be, some bearings and collars are different (but may already be on the Magtan wheels, I'd have to go look when it's light out). That's part of the reason I wanted to change the wheels, I just prefer tubeless for general reliability.

I also think a respray of the red tank to maybe a metal flake British Racing Green (or maybe the Japanese market grey RS tank) with the gold wheels would be very sharp, so that's part of the motivation as well.

I know! But they're real nice. Even the mechanic was surprised how light they are, the tires really do weigh more than the wheels. I feel like the spoked wheels are even heavier than the old '14 stock wheels too, but I don't have any number to back that up!

If I recall properly many of the brake parts needs changing too , things like the brackets for the calipers and so forth. I did not look at the Magtan wheels , just the Honda alloy wheels. Perhaps the Magtan wheels needs less parts but the best thing is to check with Mr. T .

I believe we had a CB on here with cast gold wheels for sale a while back. Don’t remember the specifics but it had a black Vesco fairing on it and a lot of mods. Finding those posts may shed some light on your questions/concerns related to the swap.

Start here:

The member who owned the bike was “736cc”

Search through his posts. I thought he discussed those wheels numerous times.
