Tail Tidy or short rear Fender (Mudguard)
#1

I've started fiddling with my bike again and after whipping off the rear fender I'm thinking of either getting rid completely or fitting a short one.

Anyone know of a kit that does that?
I don't want to cut down the original, so I'm looking for something to fill the void under the seat and somewhere to mount the licence plate and lights.

I quite fancy cutting down an original one but I've had a look thru the breakers in the UK and can't find secondhand one anywhere.

Anyone shortened their rear?

Kev

There is someone on here who shortened their fender and it came out nice. I'll have to look for it.

Mr. T carriers the Ryujin fender eliminator kit: http://www.samurider.com/?p=23031/#itemImage

And the ChicDesign short fender: http://www.samurider.com/?p=22814/#itemImage

The above may not be the droids you are looking for. Move along, move along... (joke from another thread with Beardly for those wondering)

Edit to add. I can't find those cut off fender pics (unusual for me, I know). But I did see a pic of a HagaFugu fender from Mr. T. I think they just go by Fugu now.

I've got the Ryujin. I had to install 2 plates to cover the gap between the seat and grab rails.

I think the fender eliminator works best with the stock '13 seat, or a cafe-style aftermarket seat (like CB4ME's above), where there's a sloped rear profile to the seat that blends into the "manx-ed" rear end.
For chunkier seats like the '14 DLX, or Tiro, or K&H High seats, I think the shorty fender looks better, so the rear end isn't so abruptly stubby looking.
A bit subjective, I know, but that's my opinion. Big Grin

I've seen those available on Samurider and while nice and would do the trick, I was was looking of r cheaper option. Since the UK went crazy and flushed the pound down the toilet, importing from Japan has become even more expensive.

I did have a search around Popgun and found a thread from AussieFlyer. His Cafe Racer project had a short tail which he fabricated in Fibre Glass using the original at a mould. Maybe that's what you remember.

It's looks like a dead clever idea and one that I'm probably going to be copying very soon.

I've shortened mine significantly with a short fender from Samurider. I also added the '17 style grab bar to complete the look.

That area looks familiar; I've walked along there before. Charleston, South Carolina I believe. Ultimately ended the day at Hyman's Seafood.

Oh.....GO....you went to Hymans? Your first time in Charleston???? There's food here that will blow your mind, light-years beyond anything Hymans can serve you. Please talk to me next time you're in town. You wont want to wear that hat anymore after I show you the real Charleston food scene.

lol - thanks for the tip.

Hymans seemed good at the time. I wear the cap when shoveling heavy, wet snow off the walks and driveway.

Spent a couple nights in the old city - totally enjoyed the French quarter charm of the core. So delightful.

The Charleston core is so walkable. Must be sweet cruising around on the CB1100, maybe even more so on a smaller motorcycle or possibly even a scooter.
