Thanks Peter. I had sent Takashi a message. He confirmed that Samurider has these no longer in stock and (like you) referred me to WeBike Japan.

The OEM Honda chain guard is a bit pricy but I am considering getting the WeBike PLOT "chain cover". I had finally managed to get rid or replace all chrome parts of my bike (as I do not like chrome) but I may buy it and then spraypaint it black.

Got confused...you want metal black, not chrome, will you be satisfied with plastic black chain guard that I have sitting in my garage and collecting dust????

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the offer. It is the plastic that I don't like, not the shape, colour or look. I admit that it is silly to replace a perfectly fine plastic guard for a very similar looking (metal) guard, that eventually may start corroding. But then again: motorcycle riding is all about feelings and perception. I just prefer metal bike parts over plastic. It is not supposed to be a mod to make the bike LOOK better, but to make me FEEL better!

It is not too difficult to fabricate an U shape chain guard, just a thought.

If yer goin' naked on the chainguard, the other extreme is fully dressed with a fully chain enclosure. Chain maintenance would drop tremendously, possibly to zero. Might be a first on the CB1100 Forum.

For awhile I have been toying with the idea of applying a vinyl wrap to parts of my bike. I think a carbon-fiber wrap on the chain guard might be a good place to experiment.

Bioman, Back in the day I experimented with the no chain guard look, and quickly put it back on. Have you evert taken the guard off and looked inside? There is always chain lube splatter inside, that would otherwise be slung on the bike and the rider. Then too, if you get caught in the rain, it will throw water all over. As a side note, I also experimented back then with no rear fender. Result: I put it back on after riding on a wet road. With no rear fender, the rear tire threw a stripe of water up my back from waist to neck.

My suggestion would be to bite the bullet, get the OEM part, and have it powder coated. However, here is an after market I found on eBay: Item number 154750000170 , just copy and paste or manually enter the number into the search box on eBay.

I have had the chain guard on my EX off before during maintenance, and it is a thick rigid aluminum alloy of some sort. I dont know if the eBay offering is as stout, but the seller offers 30 day returns, buyer pays return shipping.

Thanks everybody! Strongly suggest that if you want it black ( or any color other than OEM for that matter ) you first investigate having it powder coated instead of painting it. I do not think the cost would be prohibitive, and it would be far superior to paint in terms of durability.
