Hi All,
There is a BMW r 1200 rt for sale around here with 25k miles for not quite $9k. Does anyone have experience with these? I have been thinking about these for a long time for touring for me and the missus.

I have a 2013 RT that I LOVE. It's sporty and nimble but comfortable for a long trip. Perfect for two up.
25k is not a lot of miles for that bike if it has been well maintained, most of the miles on mine are highway miles.
What year is it? After 2013 they became liquid cooled.

Oh, it is a 2012. Are the air cooled ones ok ? Do you find it heavy ? I mean, it is not a lot heavier than the cb1100 unloaded is it ?

Mine is a 2013, so the same as "yours". I do not find it heavy, it's taller and when loaded with the cases full it's more bike to handle than the CB for sure.
I often take all the case off of the RT and ride it naked. It's a super fun bike.
I have never needed to stop because the bike was not cooling. If you are moving it's totally fine. If you are in Orlando in August in stop and go traffic for a long while, sure it might overheat. The way I look at is, I will overheat before the bike does....

One would imagine they went to liquid cooling because of EPA stuff more than anything else.

That's a decent price but not a great price. You can find used '14 and newer RT's, with less miles, for not much more. Nothing wrong with the pre-14's, but see if you can ride a new one before you settle on the '12. The new engine is substantially more powerful, much smoother, and offers easier maintenance.

Ok thanks for that very, very good advice.
