Rode both, bought the CB500x. Not a rocket on the highway but loves the hills and curves. Have taken it on trails I hesitate to walk on. Tight supply in used market place. NC more abundant and quite attractively priced.
Come on down and ride for a few days with Sam and I, see what you think of the bike.

As will become apparent from a ride report I'm struggle to finish, a mate of mine has a CB500x which he is really enjoying.

Ferret did you warm up to the FZ-07? After the Demo Days ride in June I thought you weren't a fan. Personally, I absolutely loved its riding character, but have to admit I'd have to sneak up on it blindfolded as far as looks go.
Just a little (lot) too "[url=http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/pd/air-jordan-xxxi-mens-basketball-shoe/pid-11189232/pgid-11880511]Nike Air Jordan XXXI" for my tastes (and age).
The NC700X is such a gorgeous bike...
...but at 32.7 inches it would be a tall seat for my short inseam. I'm not a huge fan of that motor from an excitement perspective but it gets the job done. I rode an NC750S from Stuttgart through the Furka Pass in Switzerland. My main beef for touring was the fuel filler under the seat (required luggage removal), but the front trunk "frunk" almost made up for it. The front brake was poor. My rental was an ugly bike, though: black and white with black wheels.
The 2017 FZ-07 is available with optional ABS for $300...smart money for a winter bike I'd say. The dark color scheme looks compatible with winter mess.

No I am not a huge fan of the FZ-07, I thought it vibrated horribly, didnt like the switches, the mirrors or the tach but it gets great reviews so apparently someone likes it lol.
I liked the 09 BMW F something I briefly rode, but I won't buy a BMW, for me it has to be Japanese, preferably a Honda.
I guess the thruth is I'm not a fan of sub liter bikes, but life is taking me in that direction, and I'm not happy about it. Trying to find the least objectionable solution.

[attachment=5875]Another new Yamaha that has sold very well in Europe is the MT-07 Tracer.
Here is a video review of the:
Yamaha MT-7 Tracer
Honda NC750X
BMW F700GS
Suzuki V-Strom650
Kawasaki Versys 650
You have to listen closely as the reviewers all seem to have a mouth full of marbles.

Love that bike!

I think the European XSR700 is nifty as well.

That XSR700 is a nice looking bike...I've always liked green / black combos. I'd like them to take a page from Triumph Street Twin and go tall and narrow for the radiator instead of square.

That's a steal of a deal.
