The sportster range is their entry level bikes. It’s the affordable option to get you on a Harley. AFTER that you’re subjected to constant pressure by the faithful and their dealer network to ‘upgrade’. Problem is, I think the sportster is a cool bike in it’s own right and could easily be happy with an 883/1200 Sporty for most bike chores I’d need it for around town. We currently have 3 in the family counting the XR, which really is somewhat A-typical of the Sportster range.

I've seen women riding every model Harley makes, so that would make them all girls bikes.
Sportsters are great bikes, plenty of power with the 1200, only thing I would do different with them is make them a 6 speed. Have owned a couple of them.

Good perspectives. I once seriously considered a 1200T Superlow but the Harley salesman said I’d hate it without a 6th gear. I thought that was interesting because with a low-revving 1200 one would think 6th would not be necessary. Maybe the vibration at highway speeds in 5th would be annoying.

What a moron salesman, believe most of these guys don't even ride thus they don't know what they're talking about. Actually they are are pretty smooth doing 80-85, above that is where a 6th gear would be nice.

I never use a shield I have to look through. I can see right over the top of the windshield on my EX easily. One more thing. I do not like getting to work covered in bugs. There is another one for you all.

I was driving through our neighborhood this morning and came to a four-way stop. Across the way a very nice custom-ish-bobber-looking Harley rolled up. The poor guy very nearly dropped it while stopping and trying to downshift. Even my wife noticed his struggle. Then he veered hard right then left in trying to get rolling again. I was about to make a joke about his incompetence when I remembered how bad I was for the first few months of riding and instead I gave him a wave and stayed out of his way. Practice makes perfect... or at least better

Enjoy the ride!

Hopefully he did not drop the bike trying to wave back to you , or perhaps that is the reason that many Harley riders do not wave at Japanese bikes , afraid to drop their bike.

He was much too busy wrasslin' the bike to see me wave. And I was in a car, so I was just some random cager, anyhow

I gotta say, though, it was a very chrome-y ride! I like shiny things.
