What was your first motorcyle "love"?
#11
For me my first motorcycle love was also my first motorcycle. Having moved to Saudi Arabia in 1974, as a kid there really was not all that much to do. All my school friends lived on one or two big company compounds, and so they all got to hang out and do stuff after school. It was a bit different for me as my dad worked for a small Swedish company, and we did not live on a compound with a bunch of other families. So weekend fun consisted of going into the desert and having a bbq. My parents then got me a Honda Mini Trail to bring along on those desert excursions, and I absolutely loved it! I had a blast riding around on the sand dunes with that bike, and it clearly lit a fire in me that still burns bright today. When we left Saudi and I had to sell the bike I was devastated.

Many years later I was able to buy a similar Monkey that I have kept to this day.

That would have been excellent, young memories for sure Henrik.

Even today, adults would likely get their kicks on the 2021 Honda Monkey.

As the resident "old guy" here, my first motorcycle goes back 65 years and was a used 1953 BSA 650 Golden Flash twin. I bought it in 1956 and owned it for three years, putting over 18,000 miles on it. It never let me down once.
Too bad that I don't have picture of it.

... thankfully (I think?) Google doesn't seem to forget.

I guess my "first love" bike was a Triumph. Waaayyy back in the day, I must have been 12 or 13 when I sent away for a Triumph catalog. It finally arrived, and I remember poring over it for hours at a time, until it finally just fell apart. I fixed it with scotch tape and kept it going for a little while. It was smudged, dirty, torn, dog-eared, stained with french-fry grease and ketchup, but I still loved it. The first bike I rode was a Honda 350, rented from a vendor at the Thai beach in Pattaya when I was stationed at the Deep Water Port in Sattahip in 1969. Good times!

I rode a buddies Triumph Tiger in 69 and fell in love with bikes. My first was a 56 AJS 500 single that had Lucas electrics that kept it from running. My love was 72 350 four that I bought in Olympia Washington while in college. My wife took the 66 Chevy C 20 to work and I rode the bike. Good times. You meet the nicest people on a Honda!

I’m 10 years behind Rocky with finding my first motorcycle love. It was about a 1965 Honda CA95 Benly (aka Baby Dream). Even though I preferred the the CB160 or a Bridgestone 175, (the only motorcycle dealers in my area) I was thrilled to have the CA as a 16 years old kid in 1966. I have a lot a good memories riding that bike with a lot of trouble free miles. And yes, I used scrub the white wall tires to keep them nice and white!

Man I enjoy looking at motorcycle images of yesteryear.

Even though it was only 50 or 60 years ago, it seems so fictional, like it never happened, but it did. A whole generation was raised on these classics.
