I agree with Huladog regarding Schumacher. I bought mines from walmart and prices are reasonable (around $20 to $25). Maybe not as fancy as others but gets the job done.

I have 3 or 4 battery tenders juniors and have had them for years. Use them mainly on motorcycles and lawnmowers and dont have any gripes with them. I have gotten cheap lawnmower batteries to last 7 years twice and I believe it was because I kept them on the tender all of the time. I dont know that it makes much difference on the brand you buy so long as you buy something and use it. I think the battery tender junior is around 30 dollars.

I've been using a Battery Tender, Jr. for years on my VFR. The battery on that bike is easily accessed. I use the jumper cable style clamps on the tender. Today, I attached the battery tender harness to the battery terminals of the CB and ran it through the small opening on the right side. That puts the cable by the right rear fender. I wrapped the cable a couple of times with electrical tape to protect against any chafing that may result (don't expect much but you never know) then zip tied it to the bracket where the grab handles would attach. The end is tucked up underneath neatly and the whole thing is almost undetectable. It turned out well.

I plan to alternate using the battery tender on each bike, depending on how long they sit. Now, I can still use the tender as I have always done with the battery tender clamps on the VFR then, when I want to charge the CB, simply connect the tender to the battery tender harness without bothering getting to the CB's battery which is tucked away pretty well and kind of a pain to access. One tender, two bikes. Not bad.

I've also seen an adapter that connects to the battery tender harness that allows you to charge your phone from your motorcycle. I plan to pick one up and keep it under the seat just in case I find myself on the road with a dead or dying phone.

I use the Battery Tender Junior. $24 on Ebay or Amazon. I have one for each bike, the mower and Miatta.

So...if you get a battery tender and get the right connectors with it, or from Amazon, then you can put a permanent lead on the hot battery post, and when needed, you can plug the right connector on it and then plug in heated outer wear? Is that correct?

(sorry for asking maybe a dumb question, but I go back to the 70s like many of you and back then when you were cold you stopped, pried your frozen fingers from the grips and staggered into a coffee shop for as many cups as it took to warm up.)

If I understand your question right yes, the battery tender adapter mounts permanently to the battery and the pig tail sticks out. Then there is an adapter for the heat troller that plugs into that and the pigtail for the heater gear plugs into that. Tomorrow I can download pics of my set up.

For starters heres a pic of my ST plugged into the battery tender, and the black wire to the left with the red band is the wire coming from my dual heat troller for gloves and jacket. Unplug bike from tender... Plug troller into tender pigtail....plug jacket into 1 lead from troller, plug gloves into other lead from troller and you have warm hands and body.

Not sure how many amps or watts or whatever the CB has, But I would think it would at least power a jacket and gloves

I use a battery tender jr. It also comes with a capped pigtail you leave attached to the battery and fish it out a convenient location for easy access. There is a little slot in the plastic by the rear fender and I fished mine out there (look in front of shock in pic)

on one of my other bikes I fished it out under the front of the seat and use it to power either GPS or heated gear depending on my need. Here it's plugged into the battery tender and wire with red band is wire for heat troller for my heated gear. Unplug from tender, plug in troller and you're ready to go.

Plugging in my bike tonight after a short ride, my mind began to wonder about how old my Battery Tender is. (Over 12 years by now?)
It still seems to work perfectly fine, and it has served me quite well over the years. But I'm curious, has Delran come up with any cool new technology in the past few years, that might warrant buying a replacement? So, off I went to the Battery Tender website.
They still look pretty much the same; lots of new products, but they're still making the same model I purchased in 2003. So, I'm perfectly fine with that.

Elsewhere, I also noticed there's another product in the business, from VDC Electronics up in Long Island...the "BatteryMINDer".
The main difference here is that apparently this product will monitor and actively desulfate a battery, whereas the Batter Tender can't do this (mainly because the Tender can't compensate for ambient temperature differences). Someone briefly mentioned this in another thread, but it's something I might eventually consider spending my money on. Maybe...

I recently got one of these. It does trickle, desulfate, 3.5 and 1.5 amp charge and is fully automated and idiot proof. There are tons of accessories and attachments for it. Smitten with it so far. 5-year warranty too.
