Hello All, I've finally got around to stop ignoring (neglecting) my Friend. I was going to take it out for the first time in a real Longggggg time - as suspected the battery needs a change and may need to be replaced. I'll put the charger on for a few hours and try. Even if it starts, I'll replace the battery - time for it anyway.
In the picture the battery for $138.99 is a direct replacement for what is there now. Model YTZ14S 12V 230cca 11.8 AH. Prices vary on amazon from a low of $38.78. Is there any difference from what you have seen over time as to whether it matters which I replace it with. I seem to recall last time I spend around $40-50 for the battery, not $140. The reviews for this battery vs the $5 cheaper model are all Good.
I don't know what is up at Amazon, the chargers run $10-50 for the one I paid $10.

IMHO batteries as a subject is like oil. Some guys swear by YUSA brand. I am not impressed with them after riding over 47 years.
What ever you buy report back on how it performs.

I've had all types and sizes of Deka batteries (trucks, cars, lawn tractors, powersports) and they have never let me down. The Deka AGM in my quad was purchased in 2010 and has gone through several VERY long periods without being charged.... but it still charges right up in no time. For $72 shipped (with 10% coupon code at bottom of page) it's beter than the CBs oem battery and a bargain to boot... plus it's made in the USA!!!

When I didn't hear back quick enough to make it in time to make a 3pm shipping cutoff, I went ahead and ordered the "chrome" battery. At $39, I can replace it every 2 years and be comfortable without spending 2-3 times the price and crossing fingers it will last 4-6. I'll report back with my results.
I had "equalized" the dead battery. I had hopes seeing 15.8 volts on the charger. I let it stabilize overnight, but seeing 12.14 Vdc in the morning, I knew it was a lost cause. At least the rapid clicks went away and I did get small partial cranks, but nothing long enough to enable a start.
BTW, I am in the battery business as an OEM supplier, unfortunately not for MCs. I will never get a Lithium battery for anything such as car, boat, airplane, ... No choice for phones,... and like items. ALSO, Lithium requires a dedicated proper charger and I am certain the CB's magneto is not designed/set to do it properly. Accident/Failure/Fire waiting to happen. I'll stay with AGM technology until something better is invented. Many personal items have taken my attention away from the CB (She is very upset with me - I still haven't installed my 19/35 sprockets). I should have been using the charger from time to time, but I did not think it would be over a year before I even turned a key - my bad!!!

Wow... less than $40 for a motorcycle battery? Let us know what you think. My KLR is about due for one... and I think my Harley too. With 3 bikes, 3 cars, and 1 boat... I buy alot of battery's!! If I would be nice if I could save a few bucks.

Batteries are simple old technology. The fact that the prices are so high for a lead acid or glass matte battery is highly questionable to me.
I watched guys rebuild them in truly primitive shops in Peru.

Didn't market price of lead take a hike a few years ago? I just looked and if I read it right lead is 93 cents (USD) pound. I don't know if that is high or low though.
What would worry me with a $40 battery is thinner plates and less sturdy internal supports. Is that a valid concern? I don't know, I've never taken a battery apart.

That price is in the normal trading range for the last 10 years. All I can say is no YUSA battery I have ever had and always on a tender lasted more than 3 years max 4 on a rare occasion.
So I may go the cheap route next time.

We've had this discussion before about batteries.
It's a well known fact that batteries existing in the hotter southern climates have a much shorter life than those who have to exist in cooler climates.
I have always used a Yuasa battery and easily get 6-7-8 years out of them up here in Eskimo land. I don't know if longevity has anything to do with being idle for nearly six months every winter.
I remove all the batteries from the bikes except the CB since it's a pain to do, but have a pigtail fitted for charging.
Once a month hook each one them up to an Optimate charger for a few days, then leave them in a cool dry place.
Just this year I replaced the 11 year-old Yuasa battery in my Bonneville because I wasn't willing to trust it anymore. After all that time it certainly didn't owe me anything.
